“The program showed me how to merge these two different viewpoints of Native American and Western. I never thought that was possible before,” says Coral Tachine, ’24 BA in American Indian studies and Diné graduate. Tachine’s journey at Arizona State University has been one of growth, discovery and empowerment. She says that her degree program taught her ways to bring past perspectives into today’s world – of how to think about Earth, land and human and non-human relatives. Her new big dream is to start a production company that supports and teaches Indigenous filmmakers. She wants to include more Indigenous voices in film and TV. Read more about Tachine in ASU Thrive magazine: https://ow.ly/cWH250Squ01 You can support students like her by giving to the American Indian Studies Scholarship Fund. “When I was an undergrad at ASU, I was a recipient of scholarships and that helped me a lot to be able to afford to go to college and to graduate without a lot of debt. Basically, I am paying forward that generosity that I received. My wife and I are both big believers in education and we are very impressed with what Arizona State University is doing to make education available to more people. A lot of our recipients are actually first-generation college students.” Irwin Sheer graduated from ASU with a bachelor’s degree in physics in 1981. He and his wife, Yvonne, became donors to give students a foundation of support. Thanks to the Sheers, three students receive scholarships each year. We’re so grateful for their generosity! #FirstGeneration #ASUFirstGenProud

ASU FIDM combines ASU’s focus on innovation at a Research 1 university with FIDM’s more than half a century history and legacy within the fashion industry, resulting in enhanced opportunities for both. Recently, 40 ASU FIDM students went on an inaugural trip from Phoenix to LA that organizers hope to repeat in the years to come. The students took in-depth tours, connected with faculty and had unique hands-on experiences. “I would never have been able to experience something like this if it weren’t for ASU FIDM,” said fashion student Riley Kennedy. Catch up on all the details of the students’ journey in ASU Thrive magazine at https://ow.ly/R82q50Siup5 To support the future growth of ASU FIDM, check out the fund, Friends of FIDM, at this link: https://ow.ly/12k850Siup6
