Our data shows a steady increase in overweight cats over the past decade, which can reduce their ability jump, play, and even groom. Plus, feline obesity is associated with joint issues, lower urinary tract disorders, and diabetes mellitus. Learn more about the importance of managing your pet’s weight at https://lnkd.in/gWYSsP9F – plus check out some helpful tips from Royal Canin in honor of #InternationalCatDay below.
They are elegant, nonchalant, and independent, bringing lots of joy into our lives. From their playful antics to their soothing purrs, cats have a special way of making every day brighter - and at Royal Canin and Mars Petcare, we are deeply committed to improving their world in return. However, on this International Cat Day, not everything is rosy. Recent data from Banfield Pet Hospital reveals a significant increase in overweight cats over the past decade. Analysis of over 500,000 cats seen annually at U.S.-based practices shows a 65% rise in the rate of cats diagnosed as overweight or obese from 2013 to 2023. Check out some tips below on how to prevent this condition! Today, let’s appreciate our feline friends and help spread this crucial message to positively impact their health and well-being. Our #DoGoodMovement continues to pick up steam this summer and one of our recent #BanfieldGivesBack volunteer events in Schenectady, New York was featured in The Daily Gazette Big thanks to Banfield Foundation for funding the clinic, Dr. Stacey Oke for organizing and leading, as well as the Banfield Associates who volunteered their time with Animal Protective Foundation to help more than 100 pets receive free veterinary care. This includes the vaccinations, wellness exams, and flea and tick preventatives that are such an important aspect of pets living healthy, happy lives. #BanfieldPetHospital #BanfieldFoundation #Volunteering #VetMed https://lnkd.in/geDeRTCz

Our NextVet internship program gives passionate students hands on experience working in our hospitals, so they know what it's really like to provide care to pets. We asked them to share what surprised them the most about the veterinary profession and here's what Sydney B. and Julian had to say! #BanfieldPetHospital #BanfieldLife #CareerDevelopment #NextVet #Internship #VeterinaryMedicine

Nothing will stop Banfield Associates from building the #DoGoodMovement – not even a global software outage. Throughout that difficult situation, we all remained #UnitedInCare to continue to see the pets that needed to be seen. And once things were back to normal, you’d think a little “me time” would be in order … but not for our Banfield Associates. In the week after the outage, Associates focused on doing good in their communities at more than 10 Banfield Gives Back events across the country. As Jeff Davis, Field Director for the San Diego market and beach cleanup volunteer said, “This was just a great way for us to come together after a long couple of days and make a difference.” Thank you to our community champions for organizing and our Associates who made time to volunteer at events including a: ▶ Community microchip event in San Antonio, TX ▶Beach cleanup in Oceanside, CA ▶Flood cleanup at a Shelter in St. Louis, MO ▶Free clinic funded by our charitable arm Banfield Foundation in partnership with Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) in Baltimore, MD Habitat for Humanity event in Charlotte, NC ▶Operation Kindness event in Dallas, TX ▶Activity to foster biodiversity in Boulder, CO ▶Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Keystone Conference in Atlanta, GA ▶Stand Down clinic with the #BanfieldVeterans DRG and Department of Veterans Affairs in Martinez, CA ▶Activity to support a local food bank in Pennsauken, NJ ▶Banfield Pet Academy presentation at a preschool in Norwalk, CT (stay tuned for more!) In what is already such a caring profession, Banfield Associates’ commitment to giving back really stands out and makes us all proud! #BanfieldGivesBack #BanfieldFoundation #BanfieldPetHospital #BanfieldLife

Banfield’s passion for fostering #STEM talent is part of our ongoing commitment to giving back, building a stronger future for pet professionals, and diversifying the veterinary pipeline. Thank you Dr. Alea Harrison for sharing your inspiring story and how Banfield Associates continue to make a difference in the lives of the next generation. Read more from her interview with Bizwomen at the link below.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Bizwomen about my journey to becoming a veterinarian and the integral role representation played in helping me see vet med as a real career possibility. At Banfield Pet Hospital, we understand the importance of youth-focused programs and see the impact #NextVet and #BanfieldPetAcademy have on inspiring and opening doors for the next generation -- particularly diverse youth who might otherwise never meet a veterinarian or vet tech who looks like them. We were so proud to be a part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America 2024 National Keystone Conference in Atlanta, GA. This weekend we connected with hundreds of teens from across the country about careers in veterinary medicine at the College & Career Expo. Associates Ashli Macko, Courtney Dobson, Joleene Hardy, Dr. April Allen, Dr. Tameka Tolliver, and even one of our NextVet interns Kaitlyn, were able to join in on the fun and speak with BGCA members about careers in the veterinary profession. For a special treat, they also brought with them a Blue Tongued Skink named Tater Tot for students to interact with on site. We always enjoy getting a chance to give back to our communities and helping to set up the next generation of veterinary professionals for success in their careers through this incredible event and our national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. #BanfieldPetHospital #BanfieldGivesBack #BoysAndGirlsClub #VeterinaryMedicine #CareerDevelopment

This week, we’re excited to share a new joint initiative from our Health & Wellbeing (H&W) and Equity, Inclusion and Diversity (EI&D) teams: Wellbeing & Belonging 365. The many intersections between Health & Wellbeing and EI&D to support Associates are clear. Inclusive workplace cultures of belonging not only enhance engagement, productivity, and happiness, but also significantly improve overall health and wellbeing. We’re excited about the opportunity to evolve on this knowledge to serve the changing needs of both our Associates and clients. As we continue to prioritize our inclusive culture, W&B 365 is focused on ensuring wellbeing and belonging are part of the everyday experience at Banfield and that it is providing the support for all Associates to feel mutual respect, genuine connection, and holistic wellbeing in the workplace – which extends to the experience they provide our clients and their pets. We look forward to sharing more from this work and the impact it’s making for our Associates to thrive as veterinary professionals while helping make a better world for pets! #BanfieldPetHospital #BanfieldLife #BanfieldCareers #EquityInclusionDiversity #Wellbeing #VeterinaryMedicine
