We are honoured to host Chancellor of the Exchequer Rt Hon Rachel Reeves at our US HQ in NYC, where she discussed the need for public-private partnerships with our CEO of Americas Richard Haworth and other financial services leaders. As a British Bank with a significant US presence, we completely agree that UK economic growth is strengthened when there is true collaboration between the government and private sector—especially as such an alliance can expand economic reach and facilitate opportunities across the globe. Many thanks to the Chancellor for her visit, and we’re looking forward to all that we can accomplish together.

Chinese consumers have caught sports fever and #sportswear brands stand to benefit, according to our Research team’s latest survey of luxury shoppers in China and its territories, in partnership with Vogue Business. Demand for luxury sportswear is apparent and it remains a highly competitive market. Here are the key takeaways: 🏃♀️ Sports brands remain the most-purchased across casual sportswear and footwear. 👟 Casual footwear has seen a consistently strong performance since Q1 2023, resulting in the second or most-purchased item each quarter. 🕺 Micro-trends such as ‘gorpcore’, ‘urbancore’ and ‘cosy athleisure’ are emerging amongst the rise of outerwear. 👚 High-end tie-ups with technical sportswear brands are becoming increasingly common. Learn which brands stand to benefit in the latest survey. Link in comment below. 👇

Global economic forces to 👀 the week of 5 August, according to our Research team 👇 ◾The global economy is showing signs of slowing, with manufacturing weakening and the US labour market cooling. ◾July's US employment report showed broad-based softness, with payroll employment slowing and the unemployment rate jumping. The #Fed held, but is now likely to conduct three 25bp cuts by year-end. ◾ Markets have recently been very eager to take any indication of economic weakness, however slight, as a signal that the Fed's easing cycle will be fast and/or sharp. ◾The #BoE delivered its first cut as the start of what we expect to be a 150bp easing cycle, with monetary policy taking the reins from constrained fiscal policy. ◾In China, the softer July PMI data, along with still-subdued domestic demand indicators could point to a weak start for Q3 after a big disappointment in Q2. The Politburo meeting generally fell short of offering new and big stimulus. ◾The BoJ surprised with a hike of 0.25% and reduced its JGB purchase plans, judging that economic activity and prices have been developing largely in line with their outlook.
