I'm someone who believes in always putting good energy into the world. Even if that good energy doesn’t find its way back to you right away, or even find its way back to you at all, I think it’s important to build helpful and lasting relationships. Here’s a quick example: I had a candidate whom I previously worked with (I never placed them in a role, but we had a great rapport and stayed in touch) who recently reached out asking for advice. They had received an offer from an exciting company and were curious how the salary, bonus structure and benefits compared to competitors in the space. While spending time with this candidate isn't something that would directly generate revenue for my company BioBridge Group, I make a point to always offer my expertise and knowledge to anyone I speak to, so I was happy to help. Ultimately, I caught up with the candidate turned friend, gave my insights into what I thought about the offer letter, and how I would go about a polite counteroffer. After a week, the candidate reached back out telling me how grateful they were for the advice and that they landed the job (earning the exact base salary I had suggested)!! Even though I had no financial gain from taking an ~hour of my time to do this, I knew that I wanted to do it, because more than anything, I like to help people. In the end, it’s not about immediate gains—it’s about putting positive energy into the world and trusting it will come back in meaningful ways. Moments like these remind me why I do what I do.
