Brava to our partners at Flow Space The 'Pause Life with Dr. Mary Claire Haver Great work Galina Espinoza 💗
A week after kicking off Flow Space 's new book event series, #FlowReadingSpace, I'm still reflecting on my conversation with Mary Claire Haver, MD, author of the bestselling The New Menopause: Navigating Your Path Through Hormonal Change with Purpose, Power, and Facts. Here are some of the purposeful, powerful facts I'm taking away from our discussion: 1. Women need to be strong, not skinny. One of the biggest ways we can boost our health span (and our life span) is by maintaining muscle mass and strong bones. That means lifting heavy weights! "The number one thing that’s going to make you freaking miserable is if you fall and break your hip," Dr. Haver says. "And that’s avoidable." 2. If you're really worried about breast cancer . . . avoid alcohol. "That's the number one thing you can do" to reduce your risk, Dr. Haver said, noting the multitude of studies showing this link. In contrast, even though many doctors and patients still equate #menopause hormone therapy (MHT) with breast cancer — a conclusion mistakenly drawn from a 2002 Women's Health Initiative study — a follow-up study out just last week concluded that #MHT is generally safe for most women. 3. We need to vote as if our health depends on it — because it does. "Your health is more than . . . being told menopause is a part of your life and it’s normal," she says. "Vote for people who are going to fight for change for you." Watch this space for news of the next event in our book series! And let's keep sharing stories that help shift the narrative around the #health of women once and for all . . . https://lnkd.in/ePK3zuzm
