BRC was founded in 1971 by a group of recovering alcoholics living in poverty in the Bowery’s infamous flophouses. They had hope and a firm belief that better days lay ahead. Now, 52 years later, BRC has grown significantly since our grassroots beginning and now serves nearly 13,000 individuals each year and operates more than 30 programs throughout the greater metropolitan area. We owe this to those of you who generously support BRC’s mission. As 2023 comes to a close, we want to share what we’ve been able to accomplish together over the last year. #BRCImpact #TheWayHome #BRC #HopeHealthHome

Meet Kenneth B, a dedicated Transit Homeless Outreach Worker at Bowery Residents’ Committee (BRC). Kenneth’s journey into social services began in March 2020 when he joined BRC, two weeks before the pandemic hit and the world shut down. Even during those difficult and uncertain times, Kenneth’s desire to help those in need never wavered. Sharing his thoughts about canvassing the subways in each night, “I work during the darkest nights. Some nights I stop a person’s tears by offering a helping hand. I let them know they no longer have to go through this journey alone.” If you are interested in learning more about opportunities in which you can make a difference in the lives of others, please visit www.brc.org/jobs

Mrs. TJ Jenkins, known for her unwavering commitment and compassionate service, marks a significant milestone this June 26th: her 10th anniversary with BRC. Her remarkable journey began in 2014 as a client in one of BRC’s shelters, where she participated in the Workforce Development Program and secured a position as a BRC Independent Living Specialist. In this position, Mrs. Jenkins assists clients with BRC’s continuum of programs and services, helping them achieve independence and financial stability. She also provides clients with holistic support, leading engaging workshops on Positive Thinking, Affirmations, and Writing. As a former client, Mrs. Jenkins underscored the importance of recognizing BRC’s clients as individuals on a journey to realize their potential. "Our clients are people," she shared. "They have untapped strengths and aspirations, deserving of support and respect." Reflecting on her work, "It's incredibly gratifying to see someone realize their own version of success with newfound confidence and independence." We are honored to recognize Mrs. Jenkins' dedication and the profound impact she has had on the lives of others. Her journey from client to Independent Living Specialist is a testament to the transformative power of resilience and support. Do you want to join us to make a difference in the lives of others?
