🌟 Hope For The Week: Study from 2018 in Journal of Hepatology on hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE) for liver transplants compared 50 HOPE-treated DCD liver transplants with standard DBD transplants and untreated DCD livers. Despite longer donor warm ischemia, HOPE-treated livers had 94% 5-year graft survival, similar to standard DBD livers, and significantly better than untreated DCD livers (78%). This suggests HOPE is a highly effective method to improve outcomes for high-risk liver grafts.

HOPE for the Week: 100 Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion liver transplants in a Portuguese centre This abstract from the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra presented at the ELITA Summit concluded that HOPE allowed for more extended criteria grafts utilization, and emphasized good graft function on the immediate postoperative period. Also, NAS rate decreased. #HOPEForTheWeek #LiverTransplantation #MachinePerfusion https://lnkd.in/gGAch9hS

🌟 HOPE FOR THE WEEK: Excited to share findings from the latest study on HOPE-treated liver transplants! The international, multicentre cohort study examined long-term outcomes from 1202 transplantations across 22 European centers. Key highlights include excellent 5-year survival rates and low incidences of graft loss due to primary non-function or ischemic cholangiopathy, regardless of donor type or risk category. These results underscore HOPE's efficacy at IDEAL-D stage 4, reinforcing its role in enhancing liver transplant outcomes. #LiverTransplant

🌟 HOPE FOR THE WEEK: Economic Benefit of Hypothermic Liver Perfusion Recent studies have demonstrated compelling benefits of hypothermic oxygenated perfusion (HOPE) for liver allografts, significantly enhancing outcomes post-transplant. Key findings include: - Reduced hospital length of stay (LOS) for patients receiving HOPE-treated livers. - Lower incidence of biliary complications compared to traditional methods. Moreover, a comprehensive financial assessment using interim outcomes from a US clinical trial underscores the economic advantages of HOPE. This analysis, based on 6-month follow-up data, reveals potential cost savings and improved resource allocation in liver transplant procedures. This innovative approach not only improves patient outcomes but also offers promising economic benefits, paving the way for more efficient and sustainable healthcare practices in transplant medicine. #LiverTransplant #HOPE #MedicalInnovation #HealthcareEconomics #TransplantMedicine
