5 steps to courting candidates in an interview process ... number 4 isn't intuitive. 1. Plan the interview process, tell the candidate what it is, and stick to it. I recommend keeping it to 4 steps or less. 2. Sandwich technical components of the interview with team interviews. 3. Be personable, be kind. 4. Build in courting interviews - the objective is to sell the candidate on the opportunity. 5. Stick to the clock. We had a candidate pass on a role because a 30-minute interview turned into 2 hours … don’t do this.

THE secret to making a great first hire ... I've had a lot of great conversations recently about building development teams. Here's the TLDR; Your first hire will be either an analyst or project manager - the key is to hire for your weakness. Your 2nd hire will likely be an accountant to manage bank draws and project accounting. 3rd hire? Either an analyst (if you didn't hire one already) or an asset manager to support stabilized portfolio assets. Not included in the video - as the Principal, you will likely own fundraising for quite a while.

New York City real estate acquisition professionals are hurting - but it's created a once-in-a-decade opportunity. Why? - layoffs - fraud - stress Examples: Nightingale lost nearly all of their talent when the fraud came to light. Deal volume is low - high performers are looking for firms that are doing deals. If you have a winning strategy in today's market, there is no time like now to build an acquisitions team with skilled, industry veterans. Comment below - who is hiring in acquisitions?

Really excited to welcome Oliver Nielsen to the Bullpen team! Oliver and I connected in 2022 when he first applied to join Bullpen's team. After accepting a different offer, we stayed in touch and kept tabs on each other until it made sense to revisit the conversation a few weeks ago. We're lucky to have him, and I'm excited for him to get hands-on with our customers in the coming weeks!
