  • State Superintendent Tony Thurmond today joined Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel for a virtual press conference to voice support for a bill he co-sponsored, #AB2316 – the California School Food Safety Act. The bill is a first-in-the-nation measure that would prohibit California public schools from serving foods containing additives that have been linked to health harms in children – including cancer, harm to the immune system, neurobehavioral issues, and hyperactivity. Thurmond said #AB2316 is an important step forward to ensure that California’s schools are healthy and provide equitable learning environments for all. Together, we can make sure that our students have the healthy, nutritious meals that they need to grow and thrive.
