We Build Community

About us

Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNE) believes we can best strengthen the social impact sector by investing in the people and organizations that build community. We mentor, train, coach, advocate and partner with our members and community organizations at large so they can be positive, powerful agents for community change. We help social impact organizations build the foundations of strong leadership, effective governance and skilled, motivated and inspired staff. With direct engagement with over 710 nonprofit organizations last year alone, and established strong partnerships with regional funders across the state, CNE has built a diverse, progressive, dynamic community of practice. CNE invests in nonprofits because strong nonprofits create strong communities.

  • Reflecting on a meaningful Independence Day experience at Monticello... "On July 4th, my colleague Denisha Phipps and I had the privilege of representing CNE in the community partner tent at Monticello's Independence Day Celebration and open-air Naturalization Ceremony. We spent the morning with fellow community-building organizations, showcasing our work and that of our members, networking, and discussing the meaning of citizenship and our individual roles in shaping the future of our democracy. It was an inspiring experience that reinforced the importance of our collective efforts in fostering a more engaged and inclusive community." — Brian Ullman
