In the Gran Chaco Region of Paraguay, CWS empowers Indigenous communities by giving them the tools they need to succeed. Through the program, participants learn about sustainable agriculture, protecting their rights, and using their voices to generate change. Jorgelina is just one of the many community members who recently participated in these sessions and is making sure that her voice is heard. #IndigenousPeoplesDay, #IndigenousDay

Dr. Grace Firestone has been climbing massive mountains in Peru these past two weeks for CWS. Her goal – to raise funds and bring awareness to those who face unjust obstacles to healthcare, food, and safety. This week she embarks on her final trek - a 19,795 foot climb of Mt. Tocllaraju. With Rock climbing gear, ice axes and a guide, she makes this difficult challenge in solidarity with those who face treacherous journeys to find work, clean water, medical care and protection. She has the supplies she needs to succeed and is raising funds so that others, often overlooked communities, will have the support they need to overcome obstacles and build healthy lives. Today, Senator Edward J. Markey, alongside Representatives Grace Meng, Delia Ramirez, and Adriano Espaillat, introduced the Destination Reception Assistance Act. This legislation aims to establish the Destination Reception Services Program to support new immigrants by promoting self-sufficiency, reducing emergency shelter costs, and facilitating effective navigation of the immigration process. The act complements existing FEMA programs and seeks to provide critical resources such as housing, legal aid, and workforce development, thereby easing the burden on local governments and non-profits. When an ordinary day takes a turn for the worse, vulnerable families like Marta's face huge challenges navigating a natural disaster. However, through valuable collaboration with Airbnb, we managed to secure temporary shelter for Marta and her family. CWS is thankful for the generosity of Airbnb.org, whose support has allowed hundreds of our newest neighbors to receive temporary housing as they establish their new permanent homes. A few weeks ago, I had the honor of co-hosting the Prayer Fest at the Vietnamese Alliance Church of Harrisburg. Our event, themed "Abounding Love," brought together believers from the lower Northeast region for a day of unity and worship. We welcomed six other Vietnamese Alliance Churches and were inspired by the generosity of our community, raising $2,700 worth of donations for families supported by CWS Harrisburg. Reverend Khoa Le's blessing captured the spirit of the day, reminding us of our mission to embody God's love through our actions. Events like this highlight the strength and resilience of our immigrant community. #PrayerFest #AboundingLove #CWSHarrisburg Read more: https://bit.ly/3y7VEB3

🗣️At the end of June, World Relief, Church World Service & The Refugee Advocacy Lab hosted #NorthCarolina Advocacy Day! Refugee leaders & community members from across the state met with elected leaders to call on them to support a bill that would provide licenses for internationally-trained teachers & increase language access at the DMV. We look forward to working with the General Assembly and our partners again next year to make these solutions a reality.
