Weather Advisory: Friday, August 2, 2024, 3:00 p.m. City of Fort Lauderdale leadership met with Emergency Operations personnel to discuss preparations for the potential impacts of the tropical system approaching Florida. While the main impact of the storm is likely to be on the west coast, Fort Lauderdale will see some rainfall. As of this message, two or more inches of rainfall are predicted over the weekend. The National Weather Service predicts a 10% chance of rainfall between three and four inches during that time. Impacts are expected starting Saturday morning, with a chance of Fort Lauderdale experiencing tropical storm-force winds, with gusts up to 20 or 30 miles per hour. The City’s stormwater system is designed to manage up to three inches of rainfall in a 24-hour period. Combined with a current groundwater level lower than normal, system capacity is well within the predicted range for this storm. Resources Deployed The City has vactor trucks, portable pumps, and a tanker truck at the ready. Additional resources from our contractors are on standby in the event that they are needed. Sandbags Sandbags are available for self-service at Floyd Hull Stadium (2800 SW 8th Ave) and Mills Pond Park (2201 NW 9th Ave) every day during hurricane season from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. On Saturdays, including tomorrow, August 3, staff will be on hand at both locations to assist from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proof of residency is required to receive sandbags. There is a limit of five bags per vehicle. Customer Service For non-emergency assistance, contact our customer service at 954-828-8000, cservice@fortlauderdale.gov or submit a request via FixIt FTL at https://lnkd.in/eBD28tKN. Road Closure Unrelated to the upcoming weather event, FDOT will be closing Broward Boulevard at the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) crossing, just west of Andrews Avenue, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, August 3, through Tuesday, August 6. If you use Broward Boulevard as part of your commute, expect major traffic impacts and plan to schedule a different route on Monday and Tuesday. Stay tuned to https://lnkd.in/ep_DT27W for the latest updates.
