About us
Columbus Museum of Art’s mission is to create great experiences with great art for everyone. Whether we are presenting an exhibition, designing an art-making activity, or giving visitors directions, we are guided by a vision to connect people and art. CMA nurtures that connection and removes barriers between our community and our collection. CMA’s galleries are filled with works that manifest creativity. Our collection includes outstanding late nineteenth and early twentieth-century American and European modern works of art. We house the world’s largest collections of works by beloved local artists Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson, Elijah Pierce, and George Bellows; and acclaimed collections such as The Photo League and the Philip and Suzanne Schiller Collection of American Social Commentary Art. A commitment to contemporary art, folk art, glass, and photography continues the Museum’s dedication to showcasing art of our time. CMA is where creativity and the daily life of our community intersect and thrive, as we champion new and different ways of thinking and doing. We celebrate the creative process and provide opportunities for people to cultivate and discover the value of creativity in their own lives.

FINAL WEEKS! Both of our current special exhibitions featuring the work of Robin F. Williams and Marie Laurencin close August 18. #FreeSundays includes free access to both of these incredible exhibitions! "Robin F. Williams: We’ve Been Expecting You" highlights recurring themes including the body, gender and identity expression, digital trends and artificial intelligence, folklore, and the supernatural. "Marie Laurencin: Sapphic Paris" explores Laurencin’s career, from her self-portraits to her collaborative decorative projects; from her early cubist paintings to her signature work — feminine and discreetly queer — that defined 1920s Paris.

💄 Celebrating #LipstickDay with this work by Gina Beavers! Experience this incredible work up close and in-person in the Upper-Level Walter Wing on your next visit to CMA. Since the mid-2010s, artist Gina Beavers has made paintings based on online makeup tutorials, a popular genre of amateur video content on YouTube and TikTok. To create this sculptural painting, she uses her face as a canvas, first photographing her lips painted in the style of three well-known modern artists—Georgia O’Keeffe, Mark Rothko, and Piet Mondrian—and then synthesizing the results into a three-dimensional painted collage. Installation featuring Gina Beavers, Painting Georgia O'Keeffe, Rothko and Pink Mondrian on my lips, 2021. Acrylic and foam on linen on panel. On loan from the Scantland Collection

Our Deputy Director of Learning & Engagement, Jennifer Lehe, shared this image from last week's Summer Institute for Authentic Learning, of participants winding down after a long day of learning. Jen's featured session explored the Cultivating Creative & Civic Capacities framework (C4) as a set of "roles" for creative change. CMA is happy to connect with featured local artists, educators, and speakers as well as partner with Partnerships for All on this annual conference to reimagine, reconnect, and empower.
