“One of the things I love most about supplier diversity is the chance to interact with so many different people and make a long-term economic impact. My job is to create the right opportunities for diverse businesses from project pursuit to completion. It starts by getting to know the business to see if they are a good match for the work, and if we’re a good match for them. I learn about their capabilities to get a better understanding of how much work they think they can handle. Are they ready to take on larger scopes? Do they want to? I also help them through our prequalification process. Internally, I work a lot with pursuit leaders to develop our supplier diversity plan on target projects. Sometimes, I’m also involved in interviews if the customer wants to hear directly about our supplier diversity strategy. Once we win the project, I connect with the precon team to help match our diverse suppliers with the right opportunities. During construction, I check in with the business and the team to see how it’s going. So far, during my almost two years at DPR, I have been involved in three projects from start to finish in Austin, Houston and Denver. For two out of the three projects, we were able to hit our supplier diversity goals and brought in new trade partners. I’m especially proud of the Denver team. I’ve never been to Denver before, so everything was new for me. The precon and operations teams were so flexible and patient, and we really worked together to achieve success and make a difference.” Stephanie Abla serves as supplier diversity manager for DPR’s Central Region. From Lebanon, Stephanie grew up in the United Arab Emirates. Living in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, she met a lot of people from different backgrounds and developed a love for languages and learning about different cultures. She speaks English, French, Arabic, and is learning Spanish. She moved from Dubai to the U.S. in 2020 and found her calling in supplier diversity. Stephanie is a #pillarofconstruction. *Our Pillars of Construction series celebrates the diverse experiences and perspectives of DPR employees, reflecting on how our histories and culture shape us. #dprconstruction #supplierdiversity #diversityinconstruction
