We’re partnering with Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and Birdlab to bring data-driven ecological restoration to Pittsburgh’s Hays Woods Park. This unique collaboration will use bird-banding data to guide sustainable planting efforts within our rights-of-way, and they will work with our vegetation management team to support beneficial habitat for migratory bird populations in the city’s newest park and largest urban forest.   DLC has been involved with Hays Woods Park since the early 2000s and has played a key role in protecting the area from development. This latest effort will support comprehensive site assessments, native seed propagation, invasive species control and public education.

Our engineering team had a great time volunteering with Grow Pittsburgh at the Kincaid Garden! They helped remove knotweed, weed garden beds and harvest vegetables. Grow Pittsburgh was one of the first recipients of our Community Impact Grants which supported the creation of the Soul Garden in Manchester. We are proud of our team’s commitment to community service and excited to continue making a difference through our grants program. Last week, DLC was honored to join WPXI-TV 11 Cares for the “Pack the Bus” initiative in collaboration with The Education Partnership. Our dedicated volunteers worked at various Giant Eagle, Inc. locations, collecting school supplies and donations to support local schools and children in need. DLC takes great pride in being a committed community partner with 11 Cares and we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful cause!  

As we celebrated National Lineworker Appreciation Day this month, we took a moment to honor the unwavering dedication of our lineworkers, troubleshooters and underground crew members. To celebrate, we hosted luncheons at our service centers across our territory where our team members gathered to enjoy a well-deserved break. The highlight of these gatherings was a barbeque that brought everyone together in celebration and appreciation. We are immensely grateful to our crews for the long hours and commitment to keeping the lights on in our Pittsburgh community.
