August 9 marked the 2nd anniversary of the CHIPS Act being signed into law, and on this day, we had the honor of hosting staff from The House of Representatives, NIST and the CPO for a tour of both our existing and future facilities in Colorado Springs. This week, we’re spotlighting how we are advancing sustainability and innovation within our business. Vice President Rajiv Singh and his team have driven breakthroughs in chemical mechanical polishing of silicon carbide for use in silicon carbide power devices which are essential components of electric vehicles. To work effectively, the silicon carbide must be polished, free of imperfections. Rajiv and team developed a process that polished the material in minutes, saving extensively on time and materials and enabling a higher performing battery. “The environmental footprint for manufacturing was reduced by our process— both for us and our customers. It requires less chemistry and less materials to make these wafers,” Singh said. Today we reported our 2024 second quarter financial results with sales of $813 million. “The Entegris team delivered another quarter of strong performance and execution. We continue to invest in efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our manufacturing. Sustainability R&D leader Frank Onyemauwa has led the charge in reducing the raw materials that go into our products, with a goal to replace 10-20% of the raw materials that go into our products with biomass or renewable sources by 2030. “The practice of green chemistry is not left only to chemists and engineers. We do what we can to make people aware, whether you’re working as an operator or in the shipping department, we all have the obligation to minimize waste production in all our activities,” Onyemauwa said.
