Did you miss the Volta Foundation’s recent webinar "Battery Material Performance Enhancer: Atomic Layer Deposition Nanocoatings for Li-Ion Cells" with Forge Nano's VP of Energy Storage Barbara Hughes? Request a PDF of the slides at the link below. During the panel, Dr. Hughes discusses how Forge Nano’s proprietary Atomic Layer Deposition technology, Atomic Armor, optimizes battery materials by applying protective nanocoatings engineered to improve battery product performance and lifetime. The webinar covered Forge Nano’s work on high-nickel NMC, graphite and silicon anodes, and gives a glimpse into the newly formed Forge Battery, which intends to produce cylindrical cells using ALD-coated materials at gigawatt hour scale. https://lnkd.in/g2eNAzku

R&D Scientist on our Semiconductor team, Sara Harris, dominating the final day of #ALDALE2024 with an excellent talk on our catalyzed AlN #ALDep process for power and resonator applications. Sara showed our ability to turn turn thermal AlN processes on & off with a catalyst, and its ability to coat porous and complex substrates with aspect ratios as high as 30:1, a feat unachievable with conventional plasma AlN processes. Sara also gave a poster on doping SiO2 films with phosphite to increase the conductivity of proton exchange membranes. We will still be in the exhibition until the end of the conference for any last minute chats at Booth #42. Hope to see you one last time in Helsinki!

Forge Battery today announced it has begun bulk shipments of the company’s prototype 300 Wh/kg 21700 cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells to existing customers and potential partners. Forge Battery’s “Gen. 1.1 Supercell” is being shipped to current customers, who account for multiple GWh/year in confirmed offtake. Since the announcement of the Morrisville Gigafactory in November 2023, the company has received “Letters of Intent” (LOIs) totaling 24 GWh/yr. The “Gen. 1.1 Supercell” has a confirmed specific energy of 300 Wh/kg without the typical compromise in cycle life. Forge Battery expects its A-Sample cells will meet or exceed industry standard lifetimes suitable for its intended target customer markets, which include electric trucks, off-highway vehicles, motorcycles and aerospace and Department of Defense (DoD) applications. Comprised of a lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC 811) cathode and silicon oxide (SiOx) graphite composite anode, the Forge Battery “Gen. 1.1 Supercell” expects to outperform energy density targets set by the United States Advanced Battery Consortium (USABC) with a 20% cost reduction per kWh. The high-performance metrics are attained through enablement of high amounts of active silicon content and greater stability of cathode active materials at high voltage, while cost metrics are a result of the reduction of electrolyte and electrolyte additives. Forge Battery’s cell materials are coated using Forge Nano, Inc.’s proprietary Atomic Armor™ atomic layer deposition technology, which coats materials with an ultrathin, uniform and robust nanocoating that prevent unwanted chemical reactions at the surface. Forge Battery expects to begin commercial production of its Supercells at a newly constructed Gigafactory outside of Raleigh, North Carolina in 2026. Forge Battery’s cells intend to use a material supply chain comprised of materials produced in the United States, with 90 percent of cell contents sourced from U.S entities. Forge Battery’s “Gen. 1.1 Supercell” currently utilizes 100 percent of its cathode and anode materials from U.S suppliers, with additional cell materials sourced via South Korea. We recently launched our new 200 mm single wafer #ALDep cluster platform, TEPHRA™. And while we are ecstatic to share TEPHRA with the world, we know you may be wondering what sets it apart from all the rest of the ALD cluster tools out there.  Even though TEPHRA might look similar on the surface, it is jam-packed with clever hardware, design and chemistry. TEPHRA doesn’t just do ALD, TEPHRA is the essence of ALD. We feel we have delivered something truly innovative for the #semiconductor industry. So, to help you get to know TEPHRA on a deeper level, we put together a list of everything you need to know about what makes it unique. Check out the list here -->  https://lnkd.in/d-6s36Pm
