Today was a momentous day for the Town of Shutesbury. Residents, library supporters, US Representative Jim McGovern, Senator Jo Comerford, and Representative Aaron Saunders all gathered to celebrate the Groundbreaking for the new Shutesbury Public Library. What started as a dream, became a mission, and is now a reality. I am amazed by the Town’s dedication to bring a new library to its residents and impressed that the Friends of the M.N. Spear Library have raised over $575,000 towards this effort. I’m honored I had the opportunity to support this project through the wetland delineation, ANRAD, wetland restoration, and two Notices of Intent. Working with the Library Director, Mary Anne Antonellis, and Library Building Committee member and Friends of the Library Executive Committee member, Penny Jaques, was truly a pleasure. Congratulations to all who contributed towards the new Shutesbury Public Library. Your hard work has paid off.

I had the opportunity to attend Northeast Energy & Commerce Association Environmental 101 in Worcester, MA! I was joined by a diverse group of attendees, including other consultants, experts, lawyers, and regulatory agents from states across New England. Here are a few highlights from the session: 1. Favorite Presentation: The presentation on Rare, Threatened, and Endangered Species addressed the need to assess our projects' direct/indirect impacts on these species and proposed avoidance, minimization, and mitigation measures that will reduce these impacts. This presentation was particularly interesting to me, offering a fresh perspective on aspects of environmental work I haven't encountered yet. 2. Insights: Key takeaways include the importance of starting and streamlining the permitting process early and effectively managing unexpected conditions during project work. Collaboration with contractors, proactive emergency planning, and adapting to evolving regulations and state frameworks were emphasized. 3. Innovations: Emerging technologies discussed include an anaerobic digester that converts organic waste into renewable natural gas and advanced PFAS treatment technologies for contaminated soil and landfill leachate. Thanks to the organizers, speakers, and sponsors for making this event a success. I'm inspired and eager to share these ideas! #ProfessionalDevelopment #RegulatoryCompliance #ProjectManagement #EnvironmentalPermitting #EnvironmentalTechnology #AirQuality #ContaminatedMaterials #RenewableEnergy #Wetlands #SoilManagement #PFAS #RTESpecies

It has been exciting to seeing this project come to life! Fuss & O'Neill supported the University of Connecticut in the preparation of the Connecticut Environmental Policy Act (CEPA) Environmental Impact Evaluation for this project that transformed this part of campus. Congratulations to PAYETTE, Towers | Golde Landscape Architects & the entire team!
The University of Connecticut's STEM Research Center - Science 1 has achieved SITES Silver certification! The building is surrounded by 12+ acres situated at the periphery of the main campus and adjacent to a natural woodland, acting as the interface between academic life and the natural surroundings on a steep slope. The university was committed to transforming this area of the campus from a series of parking lots to a pedestrian-centric and environmentally focused landscape for the new science building while demonstrating the university's commitment to the sciences and the environment.
