We want to give a HUGE shoutout to the Del Papa Distributing Company team and to all of YOU! Throughout the months of May and June, $10 for every case of Kona Big Wave beer, and a portion of proceeds from restaurant drink orders, were donated to Galveston Bay Foundation. 🍺 Thanks to all our Galveston and Brazoria county beer drinkers, $10,813.49 was raised!  We are grateful for our partnership with Del Papa Distributing and to our Bay community for supporting GBF and #BeersForTheBay. 🌊

We’re excited to share that our Dollar Bay Marsh Restoration project in Texas City has been named one of The American Shore and Beach Preservation Association’s Best Restored Shores of 2024! 🙌  This award reflects the hard work of our habitat restoration team, who tirelessly worked to restore this important habitat for juvenile fish, crabs, and other Bay wildlife. Just three years after the project began, Dollar Bay is nearly fully vegetated, providing a new home for Bay wildlife to thrive. 🦀🐟🌾🌊 Read more about the Best Restored Shores award and our project at https://lnkd.in/gNWJrcuj  #HabitatRestoration #Award

🛫 United Airlines assisted Galveston Bay Foundation by sending 13 volunteers to help clear 150 square feet of overgrowth in our hardwood forest, including a large amount of Yaupon Holly. 🌳 Q: Why would we need to clear out the overgrowth of a native species like Yaupon Holly?  A: Clearing overgrowth is a restoration activity that increases biodiversity. While Yaupon Holly is indeed native, it's often labeled as "invasive" because it can outcompete other native vegetation and disrupt the balance of the wider natural area.  The United team restored the habitat so that other native plants will have a better chance at catching the sun and gaining more nutrients to grow. A greater variety of plants means that more wildlife will enjoy making a home there!  Thank you to their team and for their dedicated partnership with Galveston Bay Foundation! 🤝 #United #HabitatRestoration

At GBF, every day is #ConservationDay! 🙌 Since 1987, we've served as the guardians of Galveston Bay, on a mission to preserve and protect one of our community’s most precious natural resources.  Today, we’re excited to share that in 2023, GBF: 🌾 Planted 14,200 stems of smooth cordgrass at #MarshMania  🦪 Recycled 237 tons of oyster shells with our restaurant partners 🌅 Conserved 1,250 acres of habitat, bringing our total to 17,500+ acres 🛢️ Distributed 200+ rain barrels, thereby conserving 212,000+ gallons of water 🌊 Removed 8,000+ pieces of trash and nurdles (small pieces of plastic) from the Bay and its surrounding shorelines  We’re proud to be protectors of our Bay, and our work isn’t done yet.  #conservation #worldconservationday

We're thankful to the aramco team for helping clean the coast by removing harmful debris from our shoreline. 🌾 Despite some unexpected stormy weather, their team of 86 volunteers removed 547 pounds of trash! That's equivalent to the weight of one average adult bottlenose dolphin. The removal of the debris will not only help keep our dolphins and diverse marine life safe, it will improve water quality, enhance the natural beauty of the Bay, and make it a better place for all of us to enjoy. Thank you again for Aramco's generous support of funding and volunteer service. We look forward to our continued partnership! 🤝 📸 Aramco Media Team #coastalcleanup #aramco

Our Pierce Marsh project was just featured by NOAA Fisheries for Habitat Month 2024! 🙌 Earlier this year, we completed a second dredged sediment placement for the Pierce Marsh Wetland Restoration Project, which restored 115 acres of wetland and coastal habitat for various birds, fish, and other wildlife around the Bay! 🌊🌾 To restore the marsh, roughly 280,000 cubic yards of dredge material were placed at the site in two phases (the first in 2022, the second earlier this year). This project has been one huge team effort, involving NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, the US Army Corps of Engineers, Texas General Land Office, and Ducks Unlimited, partly funded by the Deepwater Horizon Texas Trustee Implementation Group. 👇 Read the full article below 👇 https://lnkd.in/gnHdimVy 📸 Michael Plaza with Ducks Unlimited 📍 Pierce Marsh  #Conservation #NOAA

We're shining a bright light on this incredible corporate group that planted over 378 plants at our Kemah headquarters! 🌱 Thank you to Genesis Energy, L.P. who planted just shy of an acre of endangered coastal tallgrass prairie.  Fun fact: One acre of coastal prairie can store about 1.5 million gallons of water according to EPA estimates, or 9 inches of rain per hour.  By helping us restore this patch of prairie, we are one step closer to our property being complete and ready for our new building!

It’s been a difficult few days, but Galveston Bay Foundation should be back up and running with power and internet by this afternoon. We know many of you are still struggling and we hope for quick recoveries for all of you. Just like our Bay, our community is resilient, and we will get through this together. We had limited damage at our Kemah headquarters in no small part due to our living shoreline, which helped deflect and minimize wave action against our shoreline. Green infrastructure is an important piece of the puzzle for building resiliency in Galveston Bay. 🧩🌱 We’re grateful for our staff who helped prepare for Beryl and thankful for minimal damage. #HurricaneBeryl

This July, join us in committing to one less plastic!  We're encouraging you to swap out one single-use plastic item (like a water bottle or grocery bag) for something reusable.  Did you know these bites were most likely made by turtles? 🐢 Join us in making a small, simple change that will move us toward a more sustainable future and a healthier Bay for all. 🌊 On July 27, we’ll also be teaming up with Greens Bayou Coalition and other Houston-area organizations to host a community cleanup at two sites - Brock Adventure Park and Brock Park Baseball Field.  Register for the cleanup at https://lnkd.in/gxW2jq7U then #PledgeOneLessPlastic at https://lnkd.in/gEhVJc-K #Sustainability #ProtectTheBay
