To close out #DisabilityPrideMonth, our very own SMA My Way contributor, James Ian, was invited to the White House for a special performance of SPACES, a first-of-it’s kind musical collaboration with the spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) community. SPACES uses the universal language of music to amplify the many voices of the disability community and celebrate individuality. A huge congratulations to James for kicking off #SMAAwarenessMonth in such an impactful way! Don’t forget to check out SPACES here: https://lnkd.in/g_tZxCH6

Today we’re announcing the expansion of our #HealthEquityNow initiative with the ADA into the Washington, D.C. area to dismantle access barriers to high quality eye care. Black and Hispanic/Latinx people living with diabetes are at higher risk of losing their vision or going blind compared to white diabetes patients. Building on lessons learned from the first year of our initiative in Birmingham, AL, where we reached more than 4,100 community members through 50 eye screening events, we’re proud to continue deepening this impact to ensure all people affected by diabetes can access the care they need to prevent vision loss.
👁️🌟 Great news! The American Diabetes Association® and Genentech have kicked off a new initiative in the Washington D.C. area, focusing on improving eye health care access for Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino communities. This program aims to enhance eye care equity through community outreach, education, and screenings for those affected by diabetes. Discover more at bit.ly/3AfuUPQ. #HealthEquityNow #EyeHealth

While we’ve made a considerable amount of progress in understanding multiple sclerosis (MS), there’s still much work to be done to improve outcomes for people living with the condition. That’s why we recently brought together influential voices from the community to share their experiences with barriers to care, and challenges they’ve experienced in hopes of helping others who have been diagnosed. Thank you to Victoria Marie Reese, Mitzi Joi Williams M.D., FAAN, and Julie Stamm for participating!

Many of us have felt the impact of a devastating diagnosis – whether we’ve experienced it ourselves or as a family member or friend. That experience has the power to define us, and to drive our personal and professional mission. Last month, we recognized two important observances – #PrideMonth and #Juneteenth – that were created by historically marginalized trailblazers who understood that their unique stories, experiences and contributions deserved visibility. Read more about how cultivating an inclusive culture, where everyone can truly be themselves, is crucial for achieving better health outcomes for all. As I dive into sharing more on LinkedIn, knowing the interest it generates amongst my Genentech colleagues and future employees, I’ve been inspired to go deeper on topics I'm passionate about, drawing from my personal and professional experiences. Stay tuned for more in my series, What It Takes.

For the second consecutive year, our Learning & Skill Development team recently had the pleasure of hosting 25 undergraduate students on our South San Francisco campus for an interview skills-building workshop as part of the Life Science Cares Bay Area initiative. The students received real-world simulated interview practice and guidance from our dedicated employee volunteers to help them master future job interviews. We're proud to have partnered with Project Onramp a non-profit organization forging career pathways for students from underrepresented communities to make this event a success. And a special thank you to our colleagues, Joshua Keough and Taylor Milla for helping build this partnership. Learn more about Project Onramp here: https://lnkd.in/guZH5Aup
