The Lunch and Learn lead by Marlon B., Senior Director of Programs and Projects, was particularly special as the #GlobalPInterns met with and learned about five team members from the Project Management Office.  Marlon explained the importance of PMO at Global Partners, and how it interacts with every aspect of the company. Opening with the quote “a goal without a plan is just a dream”, the interns were able to get a firsthand idea of just how integral the PMO team is to make the dreams of Global a reality. Following Marlon’s presentation, the interns also heard from other members of the PMO team as they shared their paths to their current roles at Global.  These Lunch and Learn’s allow our 30+ interns to interact with each other and gain exposure to different areas of our business. Sales Intern, Danny H. told us, “I wasn’t completely sure what project management entailed, but after hearing the team discuss their roles and objectives, I realized how integral their duties are to Global’s success.”

Recently, Year Up hosted corporate volunteers to meet virtually with students studying Information Technology to role-play IT scenarios. Volunteers acted as clients calling in with IT issues, allowing students to practice their customer service skills to find solutions. This provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect, learn, and execute their skills while receiving feedback on client communication.  Liz G., Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist, volunteered for this event and shared, “This was a very productive outreach with Year Up. I was able to role-play both irate and patient clients calling in with specific problems, and the students were able to practice and enhance their customer service skill sets. It was fun!” Global Partners is proud to support organizations like Year Up in our communities. We are grateful that our employees find and choose to volunteer their expertise at these meaningful events.

Meghan F., Economics major with minors in Data Science and Management at Clark University joined us this summer as a #GlobalPIntern on our Branded Wholesale and National Accounts team. She shared her experience so far with our Intern Program.     Why did you choose Global for an internship?  I found the internship on LinkedIn, and it fit exactly what I was looking for as I knew I wanted to use both my data science and economics backgrounds. This role allowed me to use both backgrounds and help me build on a sales internship I had done last summer.      What has been your favorite part of the internship so far?  My favorite part of the internship has been getting to know the members of my team. I’ve enjoyed working collaboratively with the three other interns and working with the Wholesale and National Accounts teams. My internship experience at Global has been very fulfilling as I have been able to develop my analytical and people skills.      Has anything resonated with you in particular?  It is amazing that Global is a highly successful energy supply and retail company that is publicly traded and still focuses on family and their commitment to sustainability and the environment. I really enjoyed our visit to one of the Global terminals in Chelsea. I have sat in on phone calls with current and potential clients and worked on spreadsheets with rack prices, but to see the process in person brought everything together.

Last week our #GlobalPInterns took a trip to one of our terminals, located in Chelsea!   During the visit, they gained insight into the vital roles that efficiency and safety play in our operations.   HR Intern, Hannah K., shared “Observing firsthand the meticulous operations that ensure seamless fuel distribution to our stations was eye-opening. My favorite part of the visit was climbing the stairs of the terminal and reaching the top, it was such a unique experience!”   Credit Intern, Paolo A., shared “The trip to the terminal at Chelsea, taught me a lot about the intricate logistics of handling and transporting energy. I am really impressed with Global's commitment to sustainability and regulatory compliance. Also, interacting with the staff at the terminal provided me with a better understanding of the operational challenges and skills required in the energy sector.”

This summer, we had the pleasure of hosting over 30 #GlobalPInterns across various departments. Our interns experienced firsthand the future of convenience retail at Alltown Fresh, observed vertical integration at our Chelsea fuel terminal, and gained valuable insights during lunch and learns with our leadership team. Throughout the summer, our interns worked in small groups on projects they presented to senior leadership and their managers. Topics included: "How can we help Global employees adjust and adapt to constant, rapid change?" "What are trends in the convenience space? Using a competitive industry analysis, show where the industry is going and how Global might fit in." "How can we reinforce a culture of innovation at Global that enables employees across all levels to be more innovative?" We always learn so much from our interns and feel fortunate to have such talented individuals with us during their summer break. We wish them the best of luck as they continue their studies and begin their careers. We're proud to be a part of the foundation for their future success. Join us in celebrating these bright young professionals! #NationalInternDay #GrowWithGlobal

Isabel M., a rising senior at the University of Massachusetts – Boston with a major in management and concentration in finance is currently a #GlobalPIntern with our carwash department.    What’s been your favorite part of the internship so far?  My favorite part of the internship has been collaborating with my fellow interns and working on our innovation project that we will present in a few short weeks.    What are you looking to do post-graduation?  Post- graduation I want to use more of my newfound time towards philanthropic endeavors and, of course, find a secure job in a company that I love. Being so close to graduation I have received a lot of professional advice, most notably being “Don’t limit yourself, get involved, it is okay to pivot”.     Has anything resonated with you in particular?  I feel that Global has created this environment where I am encouraged to jump right into action and collaborate with others. Everybody here, no matter their rank or job title, makes it fun and beneficial to collaborate with others.
