Meet Robert Hicks, a resilient individual who returned to NYC in spring 2023 after the pandemic, determined to rebuild his life. With the support of GoodTemps, Goodwill NYNJ’s non-profit staffing agency, Robert found a temp position as a Junior Administrative Assistant at the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS). Thanks to his dedication and the confidence he gained through GoodTemps, Robert was hired permanently by DCAS in December 2023. Today, Robert enjoys independence and peace in Brooklyn, living his dream with a positive outlook on life and work. GoodTemps is proud to match top talent, including veterans and people with disabilities, to competitive employment opportunities.

Today, we celebrate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a transformative piece of legislation signed into law on July 26, 1990. The ADA prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including employment. While we have come a long way since the signing of the ADA, individuals with disabilities still face high levels of unemployment. This is just one of the “whys” driving our work at Goodwill NYNJ. Amirrezza, who has autism spectrum disorder came to Goodwill ready to work but faced barriers to employment. We helped Amirrezza practice interviewing, refine application materials, and apply to jobs. He now works as a Special Assistant to the NYC DOHMH Deputy Commissioner. Together, we can build a future where no talent is left behind.
