ICYMI: Google Chrome is NOT deprecating third-party cookies. A few weeks ago, #Google announced that it will not eliminate #thirdpartycookies from the world’s most popular web browser, after years of preparing for and delaying this major change. #Marketers and advertisers who had been readying themselves for life after cookies might be breathing a sigh of relief. But… what now? Here’s the thing: Most (if not all) of the best practices preached for a world without cookies still apply. 1️⃣ Consumers are still likely to choose privacy when they can. While Chrome isn’t ditching cookies entirely, Google’s new Privacy Sandbox is likely to greatly reduce opt-in for tracking. Third-party cookies may stick around a while longer, but one thing’s for sure: There will be less third-party data to go around. For marketers to continue sending personalized campaigns (and take advantage of emerging #GenerativeAI capabilities), they need a strong data strategy — one that relies less on third-party data. 2️⃣ First-party data is still a safer bet than third-party, even if the latter is still available. Data collected directly from your customers on your website, app, and other owned channels is more reliable, compliant, complete, and valuable for targeting and personalizing your campaigns. Look to alternative data collection methods like first-party cookies on your site or real-time behavioral data. Build your data strategy around proactively collecting information via more trusted, owned channels. 3️⃣ A customer-first and trust-based approach is still the best approach for your audience. Yes, privacy regulations make marketers’ lives tougher and customer insights harder to come by. But privacy and trust are the future. The more transparent you are about how you collect and use customer data: -The greater trust customers will feel in engaging and buying from you. -The more likely they’ll be to share their information when you ask. Google may have changed its tune. But marketers who have been preparing for a customer-first data strategy for the last four years are already ahead of the game and on the right track. So instead of settling back in with third-party cookies, keep on refining that first-party strategy, and stay the course to execute personalized, data-driven campaigns that convert. 🍪 #CustomerData #FirstPartyData
