About us

Pete and Ernie Harris founded Harris® in 1957 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, jumpstarting America’s love affair with the pontoon boat. They pioneered many of the features we call standard on pontoons today, like aluminum tubes, motor pods, upholstered seats, and Harris’ patented dolphin nose cone. Harris Pontoons are still built in Fort Wayne, with the care and craftmanship that their 60-plus-year history merits. Harris was the first company to bring pontoon boats to the market on a large scale, and we’ve long held a reputation as the industry standard for quality and performance. From the value-packed Cruiser series to the luxurious Crowne, uncompromising comfort and premium performance are standard.

5 Tips for First-Time Pontoon Boat Owners ✅ 1️⃣ Boat Ownership: Registration and Insurance  As a new pontoon owner, you need to register your pontoon in the state where you live and buy an insurance policy. Depending on your state, registration may be required if you have purchased a trailer. You'll also need boat insurance; the cost typically varies depending on the type of craft, size, and horsepower. The location where you keep the boat can also impact insurance costs. Learn more about your state's boating and safety regulations, along with critical rules for safe boating.   2️⃣ Key Considerations for Trailering Your Pontoon Boat  Trailering your pontoon involves more than just having a capable vehicle. Have you considered where to store your trailer while your boat is in the water? You may need to pay for storage during the boating season. If you plan to trailer your boat every time you use it, remember not all boat launches are free. Many lakes have private launches with fees or require a season pass. Don't forget to factor in the cost of trailer maintenance, such as new tires.   3️⃣ Mooring Your Pontoon Boat: On-Water Options  If you don't plan to trailer your boat, consider other options. Docking your boat in a slip at a marina is one option, but it comes at an additional cost. Marinas offer various slip options, including covered slips that can help extend the life of your mooring cover, but at a premium compared to open slips. Some marinas offer hoists or boat lifts to help keep your boat clean and out of the water. Marinas and harbors may also lease or sell slips, like real estate. Ask other boaters about how they store their boats. You'll find a friendly community with plenty of information to share.   4️⃣ Conscientious Boating: Know the Laws and Stay Safe  Familiarize yourself with your state's boating laws and consider taking an online boating safety refresher course. Your state’s Department of Natural Resources or the United States Coast Guard website are excellent sources. Depending on your state, you may need new safety gear for your boat, as most states require life jackets, a throwable device, an anchor, a fire extinguisher, a skier flag, and other accessories. Learn more about your state's boating and safety regulations, along with critical rules for safe boating.   5️⃣ Maintaining New Pontoons Remember to plan for maintenance, off-season storage, and winterizing your pontoon. Consult boat and engine manuals for service recommendations and leave maintenance to dealership technicians while under warranty. When spring rolls around, follow a checklist to prepare your boat for the season.   Start your boating journey today. Explore luxury models, premium designs and performance packages to enhance your experience on the water. Design and build your new Harris pontoon and find a dealer near you. Links in bio 🆙

This February, Brunswick’s Black Professional Network (BBPN) celebrated Black History Month with the theme, United in Purpose. In honor of our MLK Day of Service, our Fort Wayne Harris Boats employees hosted a food drive to collect donations for The Lighthouse Community Center, a nonprofit that provides care to those who struggle with a life-altering addiction. Our employees collected over 150 pounds of non-perishable food to donate in honor of MLK’s legacy! Supporting our communities is an integral part of Brunswick. We’re proud of BBPN, our Fort Wayne team and all our employees who joined together, United in Purpose, in honor of MLK and Black History Month. #TeamBrunswickCorp #NextNeverRests #BlackHistoryMonth #MLKDayofService
