Healthmap Solutions Kidney Health Tip: Watch Your Protein Consumption While protein is essential to a healthy diet, too much protein can lead to kidney problems. Excessive protein can injure the kidneys by increasing waste production and filtration workload. For people with kidney disease, eating less protein may help slow the progression of their disease. Talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian to determine the amount of protein that will meet your nutritional needs and keep your kidneys healthy. August is National Immunization Awareness Month, created to highlight the importance of staying up to date on recommended vaccinations. Influenza, pneumonia, hepatitis B, shingles, and COVID-19 are serious issues for all of us, but especially for those already compromised by chronic kidney disease. To learn more, visit the dedicated page on the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) website. The American Kidney Fund also has answers to questions about “Vaccines and Kidney Disease.” Both are linked below: https://hubs.li/Q02JPCCG0 https://hubs.li/Q02JPV4B0

Kidney disease is a notoriously costly condition. Healthmap Solutions is working to reduce those costs, while improving clinical outcomes for these patients. Our Kidney Population Health Management program has been shown to deliver a 10% – 15% reduction in the total cost of care for eligible population. To learn about how we do this, read our recent White Paper, “CKD – Common, Complicated, and Costly: How Healthmap Slows CKD Progression and Reduces Healthcare Expenditure.” https://lnkd.in/deNuqvf4

Join Healthmap Solutions in observing National Wellness Month in August. It’s a time to focus on prioritizing self-care, managing stress, and developing healthy routines. From Healthmap’s perspective, that means developing and maintaining lifestyle and eating habits that help avoid the onset of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and other conditions that can cause kidney damage and lead to chronic kidney disease. The Healthline information site offers “8 Ways to Keep Your Kidneys Healthy.” Find that article and more information on National Wellness Month at the links below. 8 Ways to Keep Your Kidneys Healthy https://hubs.li/Q02J56FM0 National Wellness Month https://hubs.li/Q02J577h0

Today is Minority Donor Awareness Day, created to call attention to the urgent need for more organ, eye, and tissue donors among minority populations. Minorities make up over half of the organ waiting list, yet they typically have longer delays for donor organs. More minority donors are needed because compatibility is often better between individuals of the same ethnic or racial background. At Healthmap Solutions, we advocate for kidney transplants as the best treatment option for kidney failure. We are also firmly committed to equitable care for all kidney disease patients. Join us in supporting efforts to increase the availability of donor kidneys, especially in minority communities. And if you aren’t already, consider becoming a donor yourself. Hepatitis Awareness Week is dedicated to increasing public knowledge of this chronic liver disease. An inflammation usually caused by a viral infection, hepatitis can cause liver damage and lead to other health issues. According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), an estimated 2.4 million Americans have the Hepatitis C virus (HCV), the most acute form. At Healthmap Solutions, we call attention to the link between hepatitis and chronic kidney disease (CKD). HCV can cause glomerulonephritis, an inflammation of the kidney's filtering units, and cryoglobulinemia, a condition where abnormal proteins are present in the blood. Any form of hepatitis can also create additional challenges for kidney transplant candidates. For more information, check out the link below. https://hubs.li/Q02J5c070

In an informative Healthmap Solutions White Paper, three of our medical leaders outline how we are successfully slowing disease progression, improving clinical outcomes, and reducing healthcare expenditures among patients in our innovative Kidney Population Health Management program.
