Horizon had the best time celebrating Alva 'AJ' Harold at the Lynchburg Business 2023 Top 20 Under 40 event. It’s such an honor to stand behind AJ, Senior Clinical Director at Horizon Behavioral Health, who is very deserving of this award! AJ is a Licensed Professional Counselor, having dedicated his career to providing direct behavioral health services with a primary focus in crisis counseling and stabilization. So far in his career, AJ is most proud of being able to help other people start their careers in the mental health field. His next big goal is to expand the availability of crisis level mental health services to the people in our community by improving access to crisis care in an environment that is most comfortable for them. Congratulations to AJ Harold and the additional 2024 award recipients who are serving, growing, and shaping our beloved community in incredible ways. Keep up the amazing work!

The Healthy Youth Through Prevention Education (HYPE) Club arrived at YADDAP this summer, saddled up to have a great time and learn a lot! We can't wait to hear all the great ideas they will bring back home to help us prevent underage substance use in Central Virginia this coming school year. Youth Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Project (YADAPP) is a peer-led program for high school students to address underage drug and alcohol use at the high school level. #yaddap2024

Say hello to some of Horizon's amazing Peer Recovery Specialists who recently attended the 'Year of the Peer' Conference in Roanoke, Virginia. 'Year of the Peer', an initiative of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, represents an exciting year-long opportunity to educate the community on the impactful role of the peer, capturing the passion of the peer workforce through planned events, conferences and workshops. Horizon shares the 'Year of the Peer' vision, serving Central Virginians with an integrated recovery-oriented system of care where Peer Specialists are valued for being champions, building connection, and offering support to individuals with mental health and substance use challenges.
