We are thrilled to share that Mayor LaToya Cantrell's administration has unveiled a comprehensive ten-year plan to tackle the housing crisis in New Orleans. This ambitious plan, developed in collaboration with HR&A Advisors and Thomas Consulting Group, aims to address rising housing costs and improve coordination among key housing agencies.      Our team worked closely with the Mayor’s Office of Community Development (OCD), the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA), Finance New Orleans (FNO), and the Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) to develop a strategy that responds to the growing needs of the city's residents. Through a housing and demographic analysis, stakeholder interviews, and a thorough review of existing programs, we provided actionable recommendations to enhance the city's housing landscape.     One key component of the plan includes a proposal for a Housing Trust Fund, which will be voted on this November. This initiative aims to reallocate city funds to support the creation and preservation of affordable housing units.     This plan sets a solid foundation for addressing the city's housing challenges and ensuring a sustainable and equitable housing future for all New Orleans residents. Read the full article below.     #NOLA #HousingCrisis #AffordableHousing #UrbanDevelopment #CommunityEngagement

We’re thrilled to share the Prospect Park Alliance’s  2024 strategic plan, "A Thriving Park for a Thriving Community," designed to guide the organization over the next five years. HR&A has been honored to support the Alliance in their year-long strategic planning effort. The plan articulates the Alliance’s role post-pandemic, grows the organization’s capacity to benefit surrounding communities, supports opportunities to increase funding for the park, and aids in the prioritization of resources to address growing needs.     The plan, developed with feedback from nearly 4,500 community members, reflects extensive engagement and input from staff members, senior leadership, the Alliance’s board of directors, the community, and current and potential partners. It is designed to refine PPA’s approach to enhancing capacity, bolstering fundraising efforts, and effectively prioritizing resources.     Join us in celebrating this milestone for the Alliance and in supporting the continued growth and success of Prospect Park. We're thrilled to see the vision for Gotham Park coming to life. Check out this The New York Times piece, which sheds light on our client Rosa Chang’s work to create a vibrant public space under the Brooklyn Bridge in Lower Manhattan and the park’s potential to revitalize a long-overlooked area. HR&A Advisors is proud to have created a comprehensive economic study which outlines the park's potential economic, fiscal, and social benefits, and ways to ensure the surrounding communities—especially those of color and lower-income households—are not left behind in this transformation. The proposed park promises to be more than just a green space; it’s envisioned as a hub for cultural, recreational, and social activities, including skateboarding at the legendary Brooklyn Banks, markets, public art, environmental activities, and more. It’s a space where New Yorkers can come together, fostering a sense of community and connection. The potential $290 million per year in business to local merchants underscores the significant economic benefits, alongside the social and environmental impacts. We're excited to see how this project can set a new standard for public-private partnerships in urban development, creating accessible, inclusive spaces for all. At HR&A Advisors, we're committed to addressing the challenges cities are facing at the intersection of equitable urban development and climate change. Check out this insightful op-ed from HR&A Partner Jonathan Meyers on the crucial need for an equitable transition to carbon-free buildings for Governing. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act has allocated billions of dollars for decarbonizing our buildings nationwide. While we have the technology to make buildings carbon-neutral, the real challenges lie in policy implementation. Current incentives often benefit homeowners — leaving renters and low-income households behind. As states and local governments develop their implementation plans, Jon argues that their focus should be on creating a system that addresses environmental injustice and considers the needs of all residents, regardless of their living situation or income level. It's vital that we leverage this unprecedented funding opportunity to create a sustainable approach to energy that focuses on both the buildings and the people who inhabit them. Read Jon's full article below and join the conversation on ensuring a just transition to carbon-free buildings. How can we work together to create equitable solutions that effectively move the needle towards carbon neutrality?

Congratulations to the United Center Joint Venture and the Reinsdorf and Wirtz families on unveiling plans for The 1901 Project — a significant private investment for Chicago’s West Side. The project includes mixed-use development with housing, retail, a 6,000-seat capacity theater-style music hall, hotel, and a one-of-a-kind elevated public park surrounding the iconic home to the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks. HR&A Advisors was proud to collaborate with the United Center and RIOS to provide real estate advisory services and economic impact analysis for the project. The 1901 Project will leverage the energy, visitation, and brand of the United Center to transform a sea of parking lots into Chicago’s next great neighborhood. HR&A’s analysis indicates that at the project’s maximum potential, the investment will produce an estimated $4.5 billion in stabilized annual economic impact across the region from the new neighborhood and United Center. In addition to thousands of construction jobs to build the development, once complete, the project is estimated to spur around 12,000 permanent jobs at the site and across the region, providing economic opportunity for Chicago’s West Side community, as well as more than $100 million in stabilized annual tax revenue for the City of Chicago, Cook County, and State of Illinois. #economicdevelopment #placemaking #chicago #UnitedCenter #The1901ProjectChi
