IJ has filed amicus briefs in 2 civil rights cases out of Louisiana asking the #SupremeCourt to make clear that the state’s short statute of limitations in #CivilRights cases is out of step with federal law. “Louisiana has essentially made it impossible for victims of government abuse to bring constitutional claims against their abusers, by making the window for bringing these claims so narrow. It often takes months just to develop a case and establish the basic facts, and this has only been made worse by the creation of procedural barriers, such as #QualifiedImmunity, which requires even more work prior to filing a lawsuit.” —IJ Attorney Katrin Marquez

About us
Through strategic litigation, training, communication, activism and research, the Institute for Justice advances a rule of law under which individuals can control their destinies as free and responsible members of society. IJ litigates to secure economic liberty, educational choice, private property rights, freedom of speech and other vital individual liberties, and to restore constitutional limits on the power of government. In addition, IJ trains law students, lawyers and policy activists in the tactics of public interest litigation. Through these activities, IJ illustrates and extends the benefits of freedom to those whose full enjoyment of liberty is denied by government.

Today, IJ a letter to city officials in Norwood, Ohio, calling on them to cease efforts to ban private property owners from inviting #FoodTrucks onto their properties. The city’s plan could violate the constitutional rights of Ohioans and harm both the public safety and the local economy of Norwood. This is not IJ’s first interaction with Norwood’s government—IJ defeated Norwood at the Ohio Supreme Court in a 2006 property rights case.
