Based on our survey of 524 game developers, we found that Shooter games are the genre most expected to feature AI agents. When game devs are incorporating AI agents, their focus is on leveraging AI to solve existing pain points, not just enabling conversations with AI NPCs. Here are some challenges that AI an address: 1. Improving Player Retention 👾 AI-powered NPCs can create personalized onboarding experiences that are challenging yet not frustrating. Striking this balance can ease the learning curve, keeping the players engaged and increasing retention. 2. Adding Novel Gameplay Mechanics 🎮 Inworld’s generative AI can open a new horizon for gameplay mechanics. Here are just a few possibilities for Shooter games: trust-based game progression, psychological warfare, and advanced interrogations. 3. Optimizing In-game Stores 🛒 Deploying AI-powered merchants can help players navigate weapon options without having to watch a 20-minute explainer video on YouTube. This can improve monetization while streamlining the process for players. 4. Reducing Wait Times ⏳ Activision published a paper detailing the matchmaking algorithm for Call of Duty, which considers things like time to match, skills/performance, platform, whether voice chat is enabled or disabled, input device, recent maps/modes, and playlist diversity. All of those factors add complexity and time to matchmaking – which can lead to player churn. To avoid this, generative AI agents tailored to each player’s level can be used as opponents, ensuring that multiplayer games remain accessible and enjoyable. Ever wondered if your brand character could actually chat with your customers? We've turned this into reality for Chronic Cellars by bringing their iconic character Purple Paradise to life as an AI-POWERED SOMMELIER in #AugmentedReality. This laid back yet super knowledgeable virtual assistant is on a mission to make the world of #wine easy to dive into, whether you’re just an occasional indulger or a seasoned wine enthusiast. And he's not just SMART - he is FUN to talk with! Purple Paradise engages customers with wine recommendations, tasting notes, seasonal recipes, and detailed information about Chronic Cellars' product lines. 🍷🍇 Powered by the Inworld AI character engine and voiced by ElevenLabs, we've deployed this as a web browser experience on the Chronic Cellars website and as an interactive #WebAR experience through the 8th Wall platform. IMPACT: Customers didn’t just give Purple Paradise a quick hello; they really got into it, averaging five interactions per visit, with about a minute spent in each conversation. Working in the gaming industry across four countries has been an amazing adventure! In the Netherlands, most of the popular video games come from abroad. But in China, it’s a whole different game—many favorites are made in China since most players don’t speak English. With China boasting the largest gaming market in the world, tapping into culturally rich Chinese language support could be a game-changer for developers. That’s where Inworld AI’s Multilingual Support feature comes in! Powered by LLMs and loaded with culturally relevant knowledge, our tool makes conversations feel super natural. Thanks to awesome feedback from partners like LG Uplus and dentsu, you can now create AI-powered experiences in Mandarin (simplified Chinese), Japanese, and Korean. Localization that truly connects with players is key to boosting engagement. Having worked in multiple countries, I’ve seen firsthand how positive localization can lead to higher ratings and more recommendations. I'm about to share the launch of our Multilingual Support at Fortune’s Brainstorm AI in Singapore today. If you’re curious about how to use this cool feature in your own game development, check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gPh5pfW9

As a gamer fluent in multiple languages, I always choose to play games in their native languages when possible. One of the first games I remember savoring was the Legend of Sword and Fairy 3 (仙剑3). The incorporation of poetic Chinese dialogue and narration painted a subtle beauty that is still memorable to this day. For most games out there, there is a noticeable quality difference between native writing and translated writing. Typically, translated or dubbed dialogue lacks the linguistic traits and cultural context that makes the story compelling and characters relatable. At Game Developers Conference 2024, game developers from around the world shared similar sentiments with us. This feedback, along with input from our partners including LG Uplus and dentsu, led Inworld AI to develop our native Multilingual Support, enabling creators to build AI-powered experiences directly in Mandarin (simplified Chinese), Japanese, and Korean. Our Multilingual Support permeates our entire stack - covering culturally relevant knowledge bases, language-specific safety control, native dialogue generation and realistic multilingual voices. No need for translation going forward. We have plans to support more languages and look forward to powering more native experiences. Read more about our plans here: http://hubs.li/Q02H_F4x0
