Yesterday, we had an amazing Autism Cares Day at our Joe Hand Boxing Gym! Our trainers spent the morning with participants, teaching them essential boxing skills like proper footwork and how to throw a punch. This year was particularly special with wrestler Luke Disangro as our guest, sharing his powerful words of encouragement. Training at Monster Factory under the guidance of Danny Cage, Luke continues to inspire us all by overcoming the odds.🥊 A huge thank you to Luke, and as always, to Coach Sammy, Pat, and Smitty for their dedication to this program! With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joe Hand Sr., our founder, chairman, and forever the greatest champion of Joe Hand Promotions. He was, and always will be, the backbone of all we do. A former Philadelphia police officer, he launched a career in sports by joining Cloverlay, the management team for Joe Frazier, who would go on to become heavyweight champion of the world. Leveraging his experience in the boxing business, he went on to establish Joe Hand Promotions. The company grew to become the largest global distributor of pay-per-view programming to bars and restaurants. Under his leadership, Joe Hand Promotions has distributed nearly every boxing match of significance over the last 50 years and has been the exclusive partner of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) for nearly 25 years. He built Joe Hand Promotions from the ground up with the help of his sister Patricia Hand ("Aunt Pat"), the support of his late wife Margaret Hand, and his two children Joseph and Margaret. Today, his legacy lives on through his son and our current President, Joe Hand Jr., and his nephew and Vice President, Jason Joyce, who continue to carry on his labor of love. Joe Sr.'s hard work and determination has shaped Joe Hand Promotions into what it is today. He often said he could write a book about his experiences, and while he has written his last chapter, his stories, challenges, and joys will live on through his family, friends, and all of us at Joe Hand Promotions. Joe Sr. was inducted into the Pennsylvania Golden Gloves Hall of Fame in 2000, the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Fame (2012), the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame (2013) the Philly All Star Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame(2020), and the Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame (2023). He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame (1992) for his roles as a boxing promoter and a pioneer in the pay-per-view business. One of Sr’s longtime dreams was to create the Joe Hand Boxing Gym, which came to fruition in 1995. The gym, which was located in Fishtown, Northern Liberties, South Philadelphia, and is now in Feasterville, Bucks County. But even more importantly, he was funny, witty, serious, generous, caring, hardworking, and dedicated. Joe Sr. came into the office nearly every day until his last because of his deep love for Joe Hand Promotions and its employees. We couldn't have asked for a better leader and friend. His legacy will continue to inspire every current and future member of Joe Hand Promotions. Rest in peace, Sr. Thank you for everything. We will miss you dearly.
