Co-Chief Investment Strategist Matthew Miskin CFA, unpacks the market outlook, Friday’s jobs report, and the earnings picture in our weekly #MarketIntelligence: https://bit.ly/4dqCVzA #MarketOutlook #JobsReport #Earnings
Earnings coming in better than markets would suggest, the #Fed hints at a September cut, and the U.S. #jobs report missed across the board. We are seeing a massive move in the #bond market with Treasury yields falling 40-50 bps in a week and the U.S. Aggregate bond index rising nearly 2.5%. The jobs report may have been a game changer with below estimate jobs gains of 114k, the unemployment rate rising to 4.3%, and average hourly earnings only rising 0.2%. The question becomes, Houston do we have a problem? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) hurricane Beryl had "no discernable effect" on the jobs data, but we will see if August is better. Our investment theme is on why we continue to like intermediate high quality #bonds here. John Hancock Investment Management

Explore the market outlook, economy, and more: Co-Chief Investment Strategist Matthew Miskin CFA, shares our weekly #MarketIntelligence: https://bit.ly/3SrU1VY #Earnings #MarketOutlook #Economy
S&P 500 earnings still coming in strong, but met with some profit taking last week. Global preliminary manufacturing PMIs have been soft thus far for July. Stellar small-cap performance has been entirely driven from an increase P/E ratios (valuations) off very cheap levels. This week we have 171 of S&P 500 companies reporting earnings, a U.S. jobs report, a Fed meeting, and more! Our investment theme is discussing will the Fed be gone till November (not cutting rates) because of the election? Of the last 11 election years, in 8 the Fed changed the Fed funds rate in the last 6 months. There is no precedent for them not acting on policy because of an "election" and the bond market is pricing in high odds of a cut in September. John Hancock Investment Management

An interest-rate cut could be the catalyst needed to unlock relative value within U.S. small-cap stocks, which are trading at historic low valuations to U.S. large caps. Co-Chief Investment Strategist Matthew Miskin CFA, offers his take on earnings season and the market outlook in our weekly #MarketIntelligence: https://bit.ly/3YdvJ5J #Earnings #MarketOutlook #Economy
S&P 500 Q2 earnings season has started strong with growth tracking 9.7% best since Q1 of 2021. Retail sales were better than the headline suggested, and we have Prime day likely to help this month. Initial jobless claims rose, but that was likely driven from hurricane Beryl in Texas. We receive Q2 U.S. GDP this week with the Atlanta Fed GDPNow tracking 2.7%. Otherwise, another big week for earnings reports with consumer discretionary and communication services heavy weights. In terms of an investment theme, we talk about how regional banks in 2016 were the epicenter of the "Trump trade." John Hancock Investment Management
