It was a fantastic day at the Kansas City Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Classic, benefiting the American Cancer Society of Kansas and Kansas City! Dr. Amy Patel and her husband, Joe Rathermel, co-chaired the event. Sponsored by the Breast Care Center at Liberty Hospital, the Liberty Hospital Foundation, and The University of Kansas Cancer Center, the event aimed to support cancer patients. Proceeds from the tournament will fund research and various patient support programs. American Cancer Society - Kansas

Maggie Turner, RN, 2 East, is this month’s The DAISY Foundation Award recipient! The DAISY Award is given to exceptional nurses in healthcare who provide their patients with premier care and compassion. “From the very beginning of her shift, Maggie came in to introduce herself, set up expectations and care plans for my wife for the night, and made sure that she felt not only cared for but that she had a true patient advocate working with her. This could not have come at a better time as my wife was experiencing severe pain again. Due to Maggie’s tenacious focus on my wife’s care, on top of the 5 other patients she was caring for, my wife was able to stay on top of her pain medication and rest as much as possible. Maggie has been the absolute gold standard and truly is a real-life walking definition of what it means to not only be an amazing nurse, but a strong patient advocate, a productive employee, a gentle caregiver, and just a good person who aims to make sure people in her care are comfortable and getting the best of what they need to get healthy again.” Congratulations, Maggie, and thank you for all that you do at Liberty Hospital! This week, Liberty Hospital hosted an education fair for our employees to attend with the goal of encouraging and providing them with resources and information to help them further their career and professional development. We had representatives from local universities and training programs available to answer questions and guide our staff towards the next steps in their careers. We had a wonderful turnout and are grateful for everyone who helped make it a success.
