Not all workplace dangers are physical, though they can pose just as much of a risk. This week, for #SafetyFriday, we're discussing the risk of phishing. Unlike traditional hacks, phishing attacks exploit social manipulation rather than software vulnerabilities, aiming to deceive individuals into revealing sensitive information or accessing restricted systems. Organizations should educate employees on how to identify fraudulent messages to protect sensitive systems and resources and prevent potential financial losses, operational disruption, and reputational damage. Here are six signs to look out for when you encounter a potential phishing scam: 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Cybercriminals will attempt to mislead you into believing that the information you see is genuine. Scammers often use email addresses that look similar to a legitimate company's email address and can trick us by substituting letters or numbers in a URL, e.g., www.paypa1.com instead of www.paypal.com 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗢𝗳 𝗨𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲: By pressuring you to reply quickly or issuing ultimatums, criminals attempt to instill panic and fear to trick you into providing confidential information. Be wary of emails with phrases such as 'urgent action required' or 'your account will be terminated.' 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗢𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Offers of incredible deals are a common tactic cybercriminals use to encourage you to act quickly. If all you need to do is click on a pop-up or complete an email survey to win that fantastic reward, it is safe to assume it is a phishing scam. 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Most organizations will never ask you to share personal, confidential information such as login credentials or credit card details over the Internet. If the sender claims to be from your bank and asks for your account number, it should raise a red flag immediately. When in doubt, contact the company directly via the number available on their website or the back of your bank card. 𝗨𝗻𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: Cybercriminals often test their luck by sending mass emails to large groups of people, hoping that someone will respond. If you receive an email about an invoice for an item you did not purchase, do not click on the links or attachments, and delete the email immediately. 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Hackers often include attachments to infect a user's device with malware and steal their data. It may be instinctive to open attachments we receive, but it is important to exercise caution. Look out for suspicious attachment names and file types. If the attachment uses an uncommon file type such as .exe, trash it. #PhishingAttacks #CybersecurityAwareness #DataProtection

Operating a vehicle on the roadway is one of the most dangerous activities our crews perform every day. It can be made all the more treacherous in areas affected by storms. High winds and flooding can leave roads damaged or partially blocked, posing a significant risk to our crews and other motorists. It's crucial for our team to exercise extreme caution and adhere to all safety protocols when navigating through storm-affected areas. Prioritizing the safety of our personnel and the public is paramount in such conditions. It is essential for drivers to stay informed about road conditions and potential hazards, and to adjust their driving behavior accordingly. By staying alert and practicing safe driving techniques, we can help mitigate the risks associated with storm-affected roadways. #RoadSafety #StormPreparedness #PostStormSafeDriving #SafeDriving #ToolboxThursday
