United in progress toward a world without blood cancer.

About us

We are The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the largest nonprofit dedicated to creating a world without blood cancers. Since 1949, we’ve invested more than $1.3 billion in groundbreaking research, pioneering many of today’s most innovative approaches. We work tirelessly to find cures and ensure patients can access the lifesaving treatments they need. When someone experiences the fear and uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis, we provide hope, compassion, education and support. And we are making an impact in the cancer community. More than 70 years of fighting blood cancers has led us to a game changing belief. The cures for cancer are in our blood. We focus on three key areas: Research We are the largest nonprofit funder of blood cancer research. Advocacy We advocate at the state and federal level for policies to ensure blood cancer patients have access to affordable care and the most innovative therapies. Patient Support We are the leading source of free information and support for blood cancer patients, including help finding appropriate clinical trials. Within our Mission, we are committed to providing information, resources and support to those affected by blood cancers through various campaigns, including, Team in Training, Light the Night, Man & Woman of the Year, Student of the Year, Big Climb, and Hero Squad. • 💬 “Financially, I feel hopeless and ashamed because six years ago, my body betrayed me, and now, I cannot afford to keep up." - Amanda Schlesier, LLS New Jersey Advocacy Leader 💰 Over the last 12 months, LLS helped secure new laws in 10 states that will protect patients from medical debt – a financial burden they face through no fault of their own. • “A few weeks into treatment, I had an allergic reaction to chemotherapy. The reaction caused me to have a stroke and a seizure. I lost all my strength and could no longer walk, let alone sit myself up in bed. It was a long 2.5 years of treatment and side effects (pancreatitis, liver failure, blood clots, and more), but I am happy to say I finally rang the bell this past December!” Instead of starting her junior year, Georgia started chemotherapy for her mixed phenotype acute leukemia (MPAL). Despite devastating setbacks in her health, Georgia took the stage to share her story on local news and at the Student Visionaries of the Year finale. Young adults like Georgia face unique challenges, and through the Dare to Dream Project, we strive to meet the specific needs of younger blood cancer survivors. They deserve better. • "Discovering I had blood cancer brought a whirlwind of emotions—fear, curiosity about my future, and a belated clarity regarding months of fatigue and breathlessness misattributed to asthma. Seeing lymphoma on my chest X-ray was a relief and anxiety-inducing all at once. I want other families to understand that they are not alone. They need not feel isolated or helpless, as there are numerous online and local communities, they can join to connect with others facing similar struggles. By uniting and supporting each other, we can make a profound difference in the lives of those affected by blood cancer. I am pursuing a career in physical medicine and rehabilitation with dreams of helping others who undergo life-changing injuries or illnesses live life to the fullest, regardless of what limitations their conditions may have imposed upon them!” Since primary mediastinal B-cell lymphoma became a part of Luigi’s life, it has inspired him to help others.
