Updates

  • Typically, summer vacations are full of barbecues and fun in the sun. However, for some children, it means three months without nutritious meals they would've received while attending school. The summer season can bring more financial stressors for food and nutrition-insecure households, who have to budget for potential childcare and provide three meals a day without accounting for back-to-school needs. The LA Regional Food Bank and its partners are working to help fill this gap through the Summer Meal Program. Read more about the Summer Meal Program, in its 19th edition this year, on the latest Food Bank blog post: https://lnkd.in/genmKk6m

  • Southern California native David L. Kamberg volunteered with his mother at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. He enjoyed his time volunteering alongside her. Along with the many other individual volunteers, they were able to donate their time and energy to the fight against hunger in Los Angeles County, where an estimated two million children, older adults, families and individuals experience food and nutrition insecurity. In December 2020, David passed away. David trusted the Food Bank and its mission as he witnessed firsthand the work and impact. It was important to David that his money went to a local organization he felt would do the most good in his community and honor his mother, Evelyn, so he left half his estate to the Food Bank. The Food Bank is honored to be part of the generous legacy that David L. Kamberg left behind to help others build brighter futures, now and for generations to come. https://lnkd.in/ghpC57Xb

  • There are 4,000 tons of food waste generated in Los Angeles County each day, reports the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts. The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and community partners work together to reroute food products meant for the landfill to be directed to one of the hundreds of nonprofit organizations within its partner agency network, then distribute essential food to our neighbors to tackle food insecurity and reduce greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere that perpetuate global climate change.
