🎓 Now a first-gen college grad, Estefan Cervantes was initially torn between his passions for math, science, and music. "I decided I should give engineering a try," Estefan said. "I immediately loved it." During his time at Northeastern University, Estefan grew his network and his his skills in engineering. He built a drone, a date slicer, and a climate-controlled box. And he completed internships at Bosch, Sonos, Inc., and Amazon. Embarking on the next chapter of his life with a college degree and without any student loans, Estefan is filled with gratitude for the support from his family, friends, and Making Waves. "Having a coach from Making Waves impacted me the most. It felt like a break from all the chaos each semester brings," Estefan shared. "These reflections with my coach helped me look at the bigger picture when things were stressful. It also served as a way for me to think about what I want to accomplish each semester." Looking ahead, Estefan shared: "I’m looking forward to being financially stable and having the ability to explore the world." "I think that my degree has opened many doors and I'm excited to see which ones I decide to open next." 🎉 Meet Estefan in this grad spotlight: https://lnkd.in/gpS9qr72

After having an honest conversation with Jacqueline, Ashley said: "I realized, 'Nobody ever talks about what they make. Why are we hiding this? That’s no way to help students really attain wealth.'" Way to go, Anthony!
I had the honor to be able to present my research at the 35th Annual Undergraduate Research Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference (URSCA) this year! My research focus area was looking at Investigating a Potential New Novel Therapeutic Target in Osteosarcoma under Dr. Wittenburg’s lab in the Department of Surgical and Radiological Sciences at UC Davis. As I continue on with my research journey, I want to give an extended thanks to all my family, friends, and mentors who have supported me along the way. I look forward to being able to continue to expand my knowledge and grow within the cancer biology field.

What if we created a world where all high school students express confidence in knowing where they’re heading next and in knowing that they’ll have the support they need to achieve their goals? Right now, this isn’t the case – Gen Z is ringing the alarm bell and saying that our education and workforce systems aren’t working. Over the past year, the Making Waves Education Foundation team has been listening to our students to better understand what Gen Z needs and how we can reimagine our programming. It’s been an awesome process. Check out this piece to see what we’re learning and ways we’re adapting. A big thank you both to our students and to the organizations who are inspiring us and shaping how we think about our work! https://lnkd.in/gZGvWefZ
