This is what happens when #NewEngland works as a team to combat the climate challenge. The Healey-Driscoll Administration today announced that the region’s Power Up New England proposal will receive $389 million from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)! Thanks to the Biden-Harris Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, these funds are a significant step forward in our mission to create a more resilient grid and accelerate an equitable #cleanenergy transformation. Congratulations to all our partners in Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont! Big shout out to my colleagues at Massachusetts Federal Funds & Infrastructure Office (FFIO), Joanna Troy of DOER, and Weezie Nuara and Jason Marshall of Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, who lead the charge for us! There was a lot to celebrate this morning in #WalthamMA! I was thrilled to speak at AeroShield Materials’ event celebrating its new #manufacturing site in Waltham, a $14.5 million grant from ARPA-E, and $5 million in venture capital funding from Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, MassVentures, MassMutual, and others. It was a pleasure catching up with Massachusetts Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED) Secretary Yvonne Hao, Carolyn Kirk, Vinit Nijhawan (he/him), Jonathan Glass, and Dave Nye. It was also great to meet Mayor Jeannette McCarthy and City Councilor Robert Logan, who represented the City of Waltham, MA at the event. AeroShield is creating windows that have the power to make our homes and buildings more energy-efficient, saving residents and commercial building owners money, and lessening the burden on our grid. MassCEC has been proud to support the AeroShield team at nearly every step of their growth, providing them with funding from our Emerging Climatetech grant programs and now doubling down on that support with an investment from our 2030 Fund. We’ve also supplied AeroShield with six internship grants, connecting them with interns that are just starting out in the #climatetech industry. We invest in companies like AeroShield because we believe in their mission and because they invest in the local economies of #Massachusetts communities like Waltham. We can’t wait to see the amazing things the company does in this new manufacturing space! Congratulations to CEO and Co-Founder Elise Strobach, CTO and Co-Founder Kyle Wilke, VP and Co-Founder Aaron Baskerville-Bridges, and the entire AeroShield team. Thanks to Elizabeth Kennedy and the team at Activate for organizing the event. Here’s to many more years of success!

It’s our goal to empower young people with the knowledge and skills they need to build fulfilling #cleanenergy and #climatetech careers. Thanks to a Workforce Equity grant from MassCEC, the Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts has helped Brockton High School launch a first-in-the-state clean energy summer program designed to introduce students to clean energy technologies and connect them with leaders in the field. Students and instructors spoke with WCVB Channel 5’s Todd Kazakiewich about their #cleanenergysummer. 📺 ⬇ The Brockton Public Schools City of Brockton #BrocktonMA

#GloucesterMA’s connection to the ocean runs deep. That was apparent during my visit to the city last week with Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante, Sen. Bruce Tarr, and Mayor Greg Verga. We visited the Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) on Main Street, an inspiring #nonprofit organization working at the intersection of #climatetech and #bluetech. Launched in 2013, GMGI is focused on unlocking the power of environmental DNA (eDNA) to understand the challenges facing the marine ecosystem and promote the sustainable use of ocean resources. Did you know that you can understand the population of marine species using a seawater sample that contains the DNA they shed as they pass by? It was amazing to learn about what is possible from the GMGI team! We also toured the Gloucester Biotechnology Academy and spoke with current students and alums about the impact this innovative program has had on their lives and careers. Special thanks to GMGI Executive Director Christine Bolzan, GMGI Chief Scientific Officer Andy Gardner and GMGU Research Scientist Tim O’Donnell for the informative tour! #CapeAnn #eDNA
