“If it weren’t for Judy, my dad likely wouldn’t be with us today.” A knock can save a life. When Frank didn’t answer the knock at his front door, Meals on Wheels volunteer Judy Tenney started to worry. The 83-year-old man always greeted Judy when she arrived. But today was different. Knowing something was wrong, Judy rang the doorbell. Silence. She walked around the house and knocked on the back door. Again, no response. Determined to find Frank, Judy called the local Meals on Wheels office and was granted permission to enter the garage if the door was unlocked. To her relief, it was. As Judy stepped inside, she heard a faint voice. “Help me,” Frank cried, his voice trembling with fear. “Please help me.” Judy ran toward the sound and discovered Frank lying face-down on the cold concrete floor. Through gasps of pain, the senior explained how he had fallen the previous night after having a stroke. Judy immediately called 911 and offered reassurance while the two waited for paramedics. Frank's children are so grateful that someone was there to help their father while they were out of town.
