This rewarding project will create approximately 400 VA jobs and serve nearly 25,000 veterans annually from Wake County and nearby areas. “We are excited about the development and construction of a modern, state-of-the-art facility that will allow the Durham VA Health Care System to ensure that veterans who choose VA receive the highest-quality care. We've been looking forward to this milestone for a while now! There's nothing better than working on projects that positively impact the communities where we live and work. Something cool about this one: because this community center was in a floodplain, instead of building an addition, the city was going to have to construct an entirely separate building to expand the space. However, with our work on a nearby bridge removal project, we decreased the water surface elevation, which lowered the height of the 100-year flood flow. This will allow the city to build the addition. An added plus: nearly 400 existing houses and lots have also been removed from the floodplain, so they can now build, remodel, or no longer need flood insurance. That's a win-win for everyone!
