With this year’s Type Trends report, we embarked on a journey inspired by the timeless allure of vinyl records. For the art direction, our Graphic Designer Ibrahim Gharib drew from the rich visual language of record sleeves, labels, rave flyers, and genre-specific branding, seeking to convey the essence of music in our exploration of type trends. We wrote about the inspiration and creative process behind the art direction of the report - including collaborations with artists Okocha Obasi, Raissa Pardini, Lucian Stuart-Davidson, and Robin Muir. Every creative knows this moment: you pour yourself into a project right up to the moment it goes live. From that point on, all the discussions, drafts, and revisions mean nothing – all that matters is what ‘The People’ think. Will they go, “Oooh!” and shower you in praise? Or will you hear a collective “Urgh” echo throughout the internet and social media? Creative powerhouses Brian Collins, Rachel Gogel, and Jenn Anderson Miller all know that moment — which is why we're proposing a SXSW panel with them, moderated by Sara Soskolne, to dig into how creatives, agencies, and brands can use strategic yet fearless creativity to deliver work they will be proud to share. 🗳 Make this panel a reality by voting for us here: https://lnkd.in/eFY5bnc2

"I want to make brand-ready typefaces that are personality-driven, have a sensibility about them, that are well-crafted. You can be so perfect, but I think that’s become a detriment to type design and it ends up homogenizing a lot of type design." This week on Creative Characters, host Doug Wilson sits down with long-time friend Kyle Read, a distinguished type and graphic designer. Throughout their conversation, Kyle emphasizes the significance of community within the type industry, particularly within Denver, a city he and Doug both celebrate for its unique creative spirit and historical ties to typography. 🎧 Tune in here: https://mntype.co/3zYqXip

From meeting the BDF community to seeing some incredibly inspiring talks, we could not have had a better time at Birmingham Design Festival 🤩 Marie Boulanger took the stage for her talk "Kerning, spacing, leading the way," validating all the proud (but still very creative) rule-followers. She shared how the rigid, unforgiving and demanding rules of type design have provided her with the most beautiful framework she could dream of, not just to draw letters but to carve out a career and life she loves. Thank you for having us, Birmingham Design Festival!

“In most films, the title screen is the first character you see.” When it comes to designing for a movie, choosing a typeface is one of the most important creative decisions. In our latest video essay, Monotype’s Marie Boulanger tells us exactly why movie fonts matter: https://lnkd.in/eZiW553c
