Here at Mountain Rose Herbs, we have always believed it is important to remain independently owned to serve the wellness needs of our community instead of the financial needs of shareholders. But in the last few years, the majority of herbal companies that we have known for decades have been acquired by private equity firms, investment holdings, and venture capitalists. Our herbal business community has gotten smaller, and the industry is pushing toward a profit-driven model. In the current environment, we are more committed than ever to remain staunchly independent and run by humans who care. Our commitment to independence is one of the reasons we work closely with The Cornucopia Institute. This nonprofit consumer education organization researches brands and investigates the agricultural industry to identify and elevate authentic organic foods and farmers. As part of their mission, they maintain a list of nationally available, organic, independently owned brands so that conscious consumers like you know who and what your dollars support. To help amplify this message, we are now including Cornucopia's helpful list in your next Mountain Rose Herbs order! This year, we celebrated Earth Day by working with Friends of Trees on a multi-phase restoration project. About 50 Mountain Rose Herbs team members got their hands in the soil to help restore balance to a 5-acre parcel in our hometown of Eugene, Oregon. The work completed during this work party will allow us to take on the next phase of the project, which is to plant trees and native camas in the fall. Our local news station, KEZI, came by to cover the story, and we were featured with other local sustainability-oriented organizations including Bring Recycling and Saint Vincent de Paul's second-hand store. https://lnkd.in/gp-24Unm #earthday #earthday2024 #sustainability #sustainablebusiness #nativeplants

Company impact reports are a way to provide transparency about operations, initiatives, contributions, etc.—a means to show not just whether the company is making an impact, but how they are doing so. For Mountain Rose Herbs, publishing an impact report is about fostering a culture of accountability: celebrating our triumphs and calling ourselves out on areas that need improvement. Since our inception in 1987, we have continuously implemented strategies to improve our sustainability efforts. But we spent the last year digging deeper and discovered gaps in our corporate social responsibility efforts and areas where we can increase inclusivity and shrink our carbon footprint. We invite you to read the 2023 Mountain Rose Herbs Impact Report to learn more about what we are currently doing, who we are helping, and what we can do better. Cultivating Change: Insights from the Small Farms Conference We recently had the amazing opportunity to join 800 farmers, producers, entrepreneurs, teachers, and students at the University of Oregon's Small Farms Conference. This diverse group of plant lovers came together to discuss ways to support regenerative agriculture systems, domestic farms, and BIPOC farmers. Mountain Rose Herbs is committed to being part of the solution, with a vision of domestic, diverse, resilient, adaptable farms growing organic herbs. We invite you to read more about the ways we are increasing our support of domestic farmers by expanding our North American herb line, diversifying our corporate giving, and engaging more deeply with our local community on land justice issues. Together, we can cultivate change! At first glance, Fair for Life may look like other Fair Trade certifications, but it is much more robust and comes with the expectation of equitable working conditions along the entire supply chain, rather than just at the point of harvest. This means that every link in the chain is subject to the same rigorous standards and must hold its own certification, including Mountain Rose Herbs. Through measurable and annually audited metrics of corporate responsibility, we are required to demonstrate a commitment to providing and supporting safe, equitable, and eco-friendly working environments along the supply chain. We invite you to learn more about how we work with Fair for Life, and how this work is helping to end the exploitation of workers in the cacao industry.
