We’ve been asking the Department of Education for more than six months to delay the gainful employment and financial value transparency reporting deadline — since early December 2023 when it was first revealed that the delivery of student #FAFSA records to institutions would be delayed. 🆘 Now it’s August 2024, and we recently learned of yet another setback — that there will be no institutional batch corrections for 2024-25. While ED has provided "workarounds" for schools these go beyond impractical and approach unworkable, redirecting even more time from other important tasks. ⏰ Time is short, and the Department must implement our numerous requested concessions so financial aid administrators can focus on what counts right now — helping students achieve their dreams of attending college, no matter their financial circumstances. You can join our advocacy efforts 📢 by contacting your representatives. We compiled resources to make it as easy as possible for you: https://ow.ly/yXYk50SOmJU

The U.S. Department of Education gave more details about the upcoming launch of the 2025-26 #FAFSA, and will begin a “phased rollout” of the form on October 1 to a limited set of students and institutions for testing. The form will be made available to all students on or by December 1. We summarized the key information #FinancialAid offices need to know about what to expect from the phased rollout: https://ow.ly/hqRL50STPBL

In response to today’s news, NASFAA Interim President & CEO Beth Maglione released the following statement: “The fact that we are still, to this day, dealing with the aftershocks of this year’s #FAFSA rollout shows just how imperative it is that the process is thoroughly tested from end to end and launched as a system, not in a piecemeal manner. Ideally, we would have a fully functional, well-tested FAFSA opening on October 1. But given where we are in the process, and the challenges that have plagued this year’s rollout, we would rather wait until December 1 to allow time for the necessary testing to ensure a functional system when ED launches the 2025-26 FAFSA. It is encouraging that the Department listened to NASFAA and community input and is now communicating fall timelines ahead of time. It is less encouraging to hear that next year’s FAFSA will launch without batch corrections functionality. As we move forward, we hope that ED will maintain a high level of transparency — particularly around issues that would directly impact the ability of financial aid professionals to serve students, such as a functional batch corrections process. We also hope this two-month planned testing period will allow for a much smoother rollout when the FAFSA is available to all applicants on December 1. We all want this year’s FAFSA rollout to work for students and schools, and urge the Department to keep the lines of communication open with the financial aid community so that we can plan appropriately, provide accurate advice and assistance to students, and help troubleshoot issues as needed.” NASFAA's full press release is linked in the comments below.
