  • The #FDNY is Fired Up for Queens ahead of this weekend’s block party! Paramedic Carlos Lizcano works out of Station 50 in Jamaica. He says it’s a melting pot: “It’s great to be able to work in a community that’s so diverse.”   Join us as we tell the stories connecting FDNY firehouses and EMS stations to Queens ahead of Saturday’s event!

  • 16 FDNY members from Queens were honored Wednesday at a Boroughwide Plaque Dedication at the FDNY Fire Academy. FDNY officials, families, and dozens of firefighters, EMTs, Paramedics, and colleagues gathered to remember their service and sacrifice to the City of New York.   "We are here today to remember our members who are no longer with us. And while we gather today in a collective heartbreak, we are also proud to remember them, and to tell everyone about them. Their stories have become part of the fabric of the FDNY," said First Deputy Commissioner Joseph Pfeifer.   "It is the work of these members, and all our members, day in and day out that leave a lasting impression. Their dedication to service, to helping each other, and to helping their communities is not something we will soon forget," said Acting Chief of Department John Esposito.

  • At Tuesday’s Bronx Boroughwide Plaque Dedication, the FDNY remembered nine members who faithfully served the people of New York City. Their plaques will hang in their Firehouses and EMS Stations as a permanent tribute to their lives, accomplishments, and service. ”The plaques we reveal today are intended to keep alive the memories of those who have passed on. They are meant to invite questions, to arouse curiosity and above all, provide honor,” said First Deputy Commissioner Joseph Pfeifer. "As first responders, we know they were brave, selfless, and honorable. They demonstrated what it means to be a true hero, rushing towards danger when others run from it. Their commitment to the FDNY, to New York City, and to their colleagues - their fellow firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs- will remain in our memories forever," said Acting Chief of Department John Esposito.

  • On June 27, a 2-alarm fire at 416 Avenue M in Brooklyn was sparked by a lithium-ion battery. Four people were injured, one critically. That person died on Tuesday. This marks the second death related to a lithium-ion battery in NYC this year. When charging micro-mobility devices or their batteries, charge them outside where possible and always store them away from exits and hallways. Visit FDNYSmart.org for more safety tips.

  • Tuesday morning, FDNY members, families and friends gathered for the Manhattan Boroughwide Plaque Dedication Ceremony at the Fire Academy on Randall’s Island. Nine FDNY members we lost over the last year were remembered.   First Deputy Commissioner Joseph Pfeifer said, “They carried out the mission of this Department every day. Whether it was on 9/11 – responding that day or the days and months that followed, in rescue or recovery…or in the thousands of emergencies they faced, big and small, in the years that followed. No matter the call, they responded with the same class and character and offer of service. May these plaques serve as a continued reminder of them and their memories.” Acting Chief of Department John Esposito said, “As first responders, we know they were brave, selfless, and honorable. They exemplified what it means to be a true hero, rushing towards danger when others run from it. Their commitment to the FDNY and New York City will remain in our memories forever.”

  • The #FDNY promoted 49 of its EMS members to Lieutenant Friday at a ceremony at St. John's University. "As you take your first step on the leadership path, you'll be supervising EMTs and paramedics in the field. They will rely on you," Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said. "The FDNY EMS community is both strong and resilient, and your leadership will further strengthen the bonds within this community and the ones you serve. FDNY EMS is truly the gold standard. You are the best at what you do." Chief of EMS Operations Michael Fields added: "The leadership position of our lieutenants is pivotal in shaping the strategic direction of the Department. As you step into your new roles, you each will bring a wealth of experience, expertise and a deep sense of responsibility. I see greatness in every one of you. Believe you can, and you're already halfway there." The newly promoted lieutenants will now take on supervisory roles and provide first-line supervision for the EMTs and paramedics in the field. They will be assigned to units across New York City. Congratulations to the promoted members!
