Empowering Communities. Changing Lives.
About us
The mission of the NYUL is to enable African Americans and other underserved ethnic communities to secure a first class education, economic self reliance, and equal respect of their civil rights through programs, services and advocacy in our highly diversified city. Today’s economic climate has highlighted the importance of the work of the New York Urban League. Our offices continue to fill with residents seeking our services in times of crisis. For more than 90 years, New York Urban League has advocated on behalf of underserved New Yorkers to ensure equal opportunities in education, employment and civil rights. With a presence in all five boroughs of New York, the League seeks to eliminate those barriers that hinder people from improving their social and economic conditions. Since 1971, NYUL has provided more than $20M in scholarship funds to help college hopefuls pursue higher education. New York Urban League is one of 98 local affiliates of the National Urban League, a historic civil rights organization dedicated to economic empowerment in order to elevate the standard of living in historically underserved urban communities.

📢 It's time for #WorkforceWednesday! There are so many things to discuss around the water cooler these days: the #olympicsparis2024, the season finale of #Houseofdragons, and, of course, politics. Navigating political expression at work during an election year requires balance and respect. The #NewYorkUrbanLeague Employment and Career Services team has a few tips for you: Stay informed, express opinions respectfully, and understand company policies. For more tips, read this article from SHRM https://lnkd.in/eDydU_F4 about managing political expression at work. Remember, maintaining a harmonious work environment is key! Discussing political opinions in the workplace can be challenging, but it's important to engage in respectful and open-minded conversations. Listen actively, consider others' perspectives, and prioritize maintaining a positive and professional environment. Let's foster understanding and empathy, even when we disagree. If you or someone you know is 18 or older, a New York City resident, and needs employment search assistance, register today for our next virtual information session on August 14th. Today, let's take a moment to recognize the importance of the 1965 #VotingRightsAct and the impact it had on ensuring everyone's right to vote. This historic piece of legislation was a significant step forward in the fight for equality and justice. However, the work is not over. It's essential for all of us to exercise our right to vote and continue advocating for fair and accessible elections. The #NewYorkUrbanLeague reminds you that every vote counts, and together, we can work towards a more inclusive and representative democracy.
