PETA just launched our newest virtual reality experience, When They Came For Us. Players lift off into an extraterrestrial encounter in which persuasion is the key to their survival and freedom. We’re proud to offer our first gamified, immersive role-playing experience. It uses artificial intelligence to provide new opportunities to develop understanding and empathy for our fellow Earthlings. PETA’s latest virtual reality experience requires players to persuade a powerful alien life form not to exploit them. They’re given seven minutes to explain why they should be left in peace to live free from harm—and then the massive being renders a verdict. The situation is tense and dramatic, as time is ticking for the human attempting to prove their case. By requiring humans to argue convincingly for their right to exist, When They Came For Us helps us reflect on why exploiting other animals is cruel and unnecessary. This interactive presentation of the concept of speciesism is similar to PETA’s Abduction experience in that it’s a virtual journey that urges players to consider why every animal is someone and respect other species. https://lnkd.in/et3r6jc6 #virtual #reality #empathy #animal #endspeciesism #veganeducation #freedomforall #crueltyfree #govegan #NotOurs2Use #NotOurs2Wear #NotAnExperiment #animalliberationnow

About us
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) entities have more than 9 million members and supporters globally, and PETA U.S. is the largest animal rights organization in the world. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of rodents, birds, and other animals who are often considered “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns. PETA Foundation was founded in 1993 as an organization that helps PETA run, and includes departments like IT, Development, and Interactive Media. PETA and the PETA Foundation are two separate organizations but work very closely together. Looking for a career in animal rights? See our open positions here: http://www.peta.org/jobs.

Impulse shoppers who lack the knowledge, resources, or desire to meet the extraordinarily specialized husbandry needs of hermit crabs buy countless ones as “pets” annually. In nature, these complex animals shun human contact, travel in colonies that number up to 100, and can live for as long as 40 years. But in captivity, they typically die between the ages of 1 and 4. Taken from their homes (because they don’t breed in captivity), peddled as cheap trinkets, confined to small “habitats,” roughly handled, fed improper diets, and forgotten when the novelty wears off, these animals are doomed from the moment they’re captured. Selling live hermit crabs to impulse shoppers who cannot possibly meet the animals’ complex needs is a death sentence for these sensitive, social animals. https://lnkd.in/e-nv2hvT #HermitCrabs #suffering #cruelty #sensitive #social #TakeAction #AnimalRights #advocate #activism #AnimalJustice #AnimalLiberation #FreedonForAll

City of Lights is also a city with delicious vegan fare. We’ve got the goods on where to get the crème de la crème of vegan food in Paris—croissants included—without harming animals. Pigs, chickens, ducks, cows, and other animals are exploited by the meat, egg, and dairy industries—but every animal is someone, not something, and deserves respect. Choosing to support vegan eateries in every city can make a massive difference for all animals. https://lnkd.in/egqxk6_Q #Paris #CityOfLights #VeganFood #CrueltyFree #FriendsNotFood #PlantsAreMagic #AnimalRights #vegan #VeganTips #WhatVegansEat #TryVegan

Today’s consumers are so unfamiliar with the animals on their plates that they likely don’t even know that lobsters turn red only after being boiled or that cows have to give birth in order to produce milk. And they probably don’t realize that many crabs are still alive and able to feel pain when their claws are torn off. But that’s exactly what a new PETA investigation has revealed—and it’s just one reason to leave these smart, sensitive animals off the table. https://lnkd.in/gG5sm4Wy #veganism #vegantips #animalright #animalsafety #crabs #PETA #veganactivism #animalactivism #undercoverinvestigations

Twenty-five years ago, millions of people watching the Belmont Stakes were horrified to see the favorite, a beautiful chestnut colt named Charismatic, fracture a leg in the home stretch at the 1999 Belmont Stakes. Charismatic had already won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes and was predicted by many to win the coveted Triple Crown with a victory at Belmont Park. The colt was sent to surgery and numerous screws were placed in his bones to hold them together. Since then, too many in racing still haven’t gotten the memo that the public cares about the wellbeing of horses. These concerns are heightened by the horrifying fatalities, including 14 in 2023 at Saratoga Race Course, where the Belmont Stakes were held this year. When New York Thunder’s leg snapped in front of the grandstand last year, some people in the crowd were so traumatized they got up and walked out of the track, vowing they were done with racing. Despite this public relations crisis last year, the horse fatality rate has gone up 50% in New York through the first five months of 2024. But there are scientifically proven ways to mitigate the risks. https://lnkd.in/eKhdT7i6 #animals #NotOurs2Use #NotASport #NotYourEntertainment #AnimalRights #Endspeciesism #NoExcuse4AnimalAbuse #freedomforall

PETA has revealed shocking numbers of unaddressed workplace safety violations at the University of Washington’s monkey-breeding facility in Mesa, Arizona, after analyzing hundreds of pages of reports to the university’s safety committees. Workers routinely endure accidental needle pokes and bites and scratches from stressed monkeys and are sometimes splashed in the eyes with fluids or injured by contaminated equipment. This is extremely dangerous. PETA has now filed a complaint with the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health, urging it to investigate a whopping 49 workplace safety violations at the Mesa facility in just a three-year span. Please take action by urging the University of Washington’s leadership to close the primate center immediately and release the imprisoned monkeys to appropriate sanctuaries. https://lnkd.in/ekbZcYu8 #takeaction #freedomforall #notanexperiment #notours2use #endspeciesism #NoExcuse4AnimalAbuse #PETA #activism #animaljustice
