“With the benefit of hindsight, of course, it feels like it was always going to be Senator Vance,” Puck’s Peter Hamby writes. “Trump trusts him, he’s a loyal Mar-a-Lago supplicant, and the fact that he’s close with Donald Trump Jr. made it a sure thing down the stretch.” Peter sizes up Trump’s V.P. announcement, and examines what the polls really say about the state of the race, here: https://lnkd.in/ey-hKyzp Photo: Drew Angerer/Getty Images

The semi-secret, multipart Prince documentary that Oscar-winning filmmaker Ezra Edelman has been working on for more than four years finds itself caught in purgatory. “While Netflix and Edelman maintain final cut of the film, the Netflix deal with (Prince’s) estate calls for a six-hour series, and Edelman delivered nine hours,” Matthew Belloni reports. “The estate has been using that violation of the agreement to essentially hold the film hostage.” Will the doc ever premiere? “With the marketing upgrade of Paris+ (no, it’s not a streaming service) to Art Basel Paris and the tailwind of attention many expect after the Olympics, along with the consistent push from the Arnault and Pinault clans to draw attention to the city as the capital of the art-luxury industrial complex, there’s a dawning recognition that Paris will be playing a bigger role in the art trade—and its late October pit stop on the international swirl will become a signature annual event,” Marion Maneker writes.
