The risks of radiation and orthopedic stress have historically steered many women away from interventional cardiology, which is why Women Treating High Risk Indicated Patients (WHiP) is an important initiative for us. Solving these issues to create a safer and more welcoming working environment for everyone has been Rampart's mission from day one.  We are proud once again to sponsor the WHiP Pathfinder Live Case Event on August 26th. Use the link to register for a full day of broadcasting CHiP/CTO cases with live operators Dr. Rhian E. Davies, DO MS FACC FSCAI, Dr. Kathleen Kearney, and Dr. Margaret McEntegart. https://qrco.de/beyPVX ASAHI INTECC USA, Inc. Thank you to Cardiovascular Research Foundation for having Rampart Founder and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Bob Foster speak at Interventional Complications 2024 on how to survive the physical pitfalls of the cath lab. Interventional physicians and team members who spend long hours providing care have traditionally faced the dual risks of radiation exposure and orthopedic stress from wearing protective lead. Since the emergence of technology like Rampart's (which provides over 99% attenuation allowing lead-free cases), there is no reason for these dangers to exist in a modern cath lab. #CompCourse2024 #ProtectTheTeam #ShedTheLead #YouAreWorthIt

When deciding how to best protect yourself from the dangers of radiation and orthopedic harms of wearing lead aprons, it’s critical to know that any potential solution is AT LEAST as effective as the standard. In a recent RCT published in JSCAI, the Rampart M1128 system was shown to provide 20X MORE total body protection than traditional lead aprons and shields. Incomplete radiation protection and orthopedic injury from traditional lead aprons are huge problems and the MAIN REASON Rampart was founded. The Scattered Denial docu-series, now streaming and airing on PBS affiliates, accurately depicts the dangers faced by interventionalists and their teams from prolonged radiation exposure and wearing lead aprons. #RadiationSafety #ProtectTheTeam #ShedTheLead

For decades, and throughout the career of multiple generations of interventionalists, radiation safety best practices have revolved around the use of lead vests. Few realize that the advent of the lead vest dates back to the earliest days of X-ray experimentation, and that while they have improved in various ways, vests are still the embodiment of a technology and an idea that is over 100 years old. Our continued reliance on vests is not a case of "if it's not broke, don't fix it." To the contrary, vests have several glaring drawbacks that were always known to us. They provide no protection to the arms or legs. And, more worryingly, they provide no protection to the head and dubious protection to the neck. These shortcomings have led to countless cases of brain cancer and radiation-induced carotid stenosis, among other ailments. But the most common issue associated with vests is orthopedic injury caused by the weight of the vests themselves. These can range in severity from simple back pain to disabling conditions forcing physicians, techs, and nurses into retirement. Despite all these issues, the problem we face is not due to vests. Manufacturers of vests have never warranted that their products could protect the head and neck. They have never marketed an orthopedic injury-free product. We knew what we were getting, and to their credit many manufacturers have innovated to make their products lighter and better. No, the problem does not lie in vests, but in our overreliance upon them. For too long we accepted vests as adequate protection and let the problem lie. We accepted that a century-old technology would be the first and last line of radiation defense. We did not pay enough attention as orthopedic injuries skyrocketed. We did not see that our overreliance was keeping us from innovating and adopting new technologies. We did not use our imaginations and we balked at extra line items in the budget for radiation safety. No longer. This clip is from Episode 2 of Scattered Denial, which is now streaming on the film's website and YouTube, along with the rest of the film. Thank you to ORSIF for shedding light on the difficult truths about occupational radiation. Far too many in this field have been affected or are close to someone who has been affected by radiation and/or the traditional means of radiation protection. As Dr. Hermiller said at SCAI, “it’s a Moral Imperative that we provide better protection.” Rampart stands with ORSIF and our fellow sponsors in prioritizing occupational radiation safety. #ProtectTheTeam #YouAreWorthIt

[ DAVID ] #IsNotHere Dr. David Foley, from Dublin Ireland, spent much of his career in the Thoraxcenter in Rotterdam and Beaumont Hospital in Ireland. He paved the way to develop complex CTO, and pioneered many interventional skills that the next generation is employing to this day. Dr. Foley died in 2021 of a left-sided brain tumor. Prof. James Spratt tells his story. See more stories: Is-Not-Here.com [ ] Is Not Here is a project honoring healthcare professionals tragically affected by occupational radiation.
