It was both inspiring and depressing to speak with leaders of AAPI-serving community organizations in LA and NYC. Inspiring to see people who looked like me—albeit much younger—helming organizations dedicated to helping AAPI seniors or LGBTQ+ people, in neighborhoods I know well. Depressing in the increased urgency of their missions, due to anti-AAPI hate that surged during the pandemic but continues apace. Just as bad was what we heard about the lack of consistent funding that stymies their efforts to provide ongoing services and expand their reach. In our new research, we report on what could help these community organizations, as well as the AAPI group that might need the most help. (It's not who you might think.) Check it out below. I hope you'll be depressed—and then inspired to do something in your own communities.
