Our mission is to empower lives by restoring vision for millions of people in need.

About us

THE PROBLEM: Over 1 billion people worldwide have a vision impairment that could have been prevented or is yet to be addressed, and 81% — 826 million people — only need reading glasses to correct their sight. 90% live in low and middle-income countries and cannot access or afford the glasses they need to see clearly. People as early as age 35 are dropping out of the workforce due to presbyopia and being driven deeper into poverty for this reason: a lack of access to reading glasses. WHY RESTORINGVISION? RestoringVision is a leading global nonprofit dedicated to creating equitable access to vision services and eyeglasses for people living on less than $2 a day worldwide. Since 2003, RestoringVision’s interventions have transformed the lives of 28M people in need worldwide. In 2024 alone, RestoringVision’s programs will reach 5.5 million people living in poverty. RestoringVision’s proven programs are implemented in partnership with over 3,000 NGO and government partners, as the organization also serves as a leading voice and advocate for the global prioritization of eye health at the level of the United Nations and World Health Organization. WHERE WE WORK | OUR IMPACT RestoringVision works globally, and is scaling its programs in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Our programs unlock pathways to livelihoods, education, poverty alleviation and economic development, and health and well-being with clear vision and eyeglasses for people with presbyopia. From practice to policy, our cost-effective and life-changing programs are supporting the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

✨ At RestoringVision, we are fiercely committed to advancing equity for the 1 billion people worldwide with vision impairment, 80% of whom need only reading glasses to see clearly again. Our mission goes beyond providing glasses; it's about restoring hope, dignity, and independence. Imagine being unable to see well enough to perform daily tasks, work efficiently, or even recognize loved ones' faces. For millions, this is a harsh reality due to the lack of access to basic vision care. 🌎 Through our global programs, we are changing this narrative. By distributing glasses to those in need, we transform lives through renewed confidence, independence, and income gains. Each pair of glasses empowers individuals to read, work, and engage with their communities, opening doors to education, economic opportunities, and an improved quality of life. Thank you to our partners, donors, and supporters who make this possible. Together, we are making a world of difference, one pair of glasses at a time. 💙🙌

👓 When vision is restored, lives can be reimagined.     Our CEO Pelin Munis, Ph.D. with RestoringVision’s VP of Programs & Impact Mark Lorey and Latin America Program Manager Gerardo Medina experienced this firsthand during a recent visit to Xonacatlán, Mexico. They attended a vision screening and glasses delivery event organized by our long-time partner SNDIF, the Mexican government’s institution for social assistance. The event was part of an ongoing program to bring vision services to the most vulnerable groups in the municipality, to help improve their living conditions. Xonacatlán is one of the most impoverished areas of Mexico with an average annual salary of US$2,800.     For the past six years, RestoringVision has partnered with SNDIF to bring vision screenings and reading glasses to people in some of the most marginalized communities.    To date, SNDIF has delivered over 730,000 eyeglasses from RestoringVision to the people they serve across all 32 states of Mexico.      Thank you SNDIF! We are incredibly proud of our partnership and the impact that we are making together.
