Reinventing Biopharma

About us

Roivant aims to improve health by rapidly delivering innovative medicines and technologies to patients. We do this by building Vants – nimble, entrepreneurial biotech and healthcare technology companies with a unique approach to sourcing talent, aligning incentives, and deploying technology. The therapies in development across our family of companies target a wide range of diseases including uterine fibroids, endometriosis, prostate cancer, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, pulmonary arterial hypertension, and multiple rare and fatal pediatric conditions. We focus on disease areas where the magnitude of R&D investment from industry is disproportionately low relative to societal medical needs. In addition to our biopharmaceutical subsidiaries, we also build technology-focused Vants focused on improving the process of developing and commercializing medicines.

Roivant Sciences and Roivant Social Ventures (RSV) have partnered to host the Access to Medicines Internship and Fellowship Program, providing real-world drug development experience to talented PharmD students who are passionate about leveraging their career development to expand healthcare access to underserved patient groups. This summer Amanda Bowlin served as a Regulatory Strategy Intern for Roivant's Regulatory Affairs and Drug Safety (RADS) team. "It was my goal when entering this experience to find ways I could translate my personality and clinical knowledge to an impactful industry role. I feel passionately about increasing access to medicine and education to underserved patient groups..." "Through interactions with my family members from rural areas, and the patients I have worked with, I have become highly aware of the day-to-day barriers faced by underserved populations in relation to their health. Whether it is due to cost, transportation, access, adherence or other concerns, it is evident that having a desire to be healthy is not nearly enough given today’s medical system..." "This internship provided me with new perspectives on patient care, patient advocacy, and barriers to care. I now have a new understanding of how decisions at the early stages of drug development directly impact patients and a greater appreciation for both the challenges and exciting opportunities within expanding access to medicines.." During her RADS internship this summer Amanda: - Consolidated safety data across clinical trials from a clinical program and prepared adverse event tables for informed consent documents. - Assessed Roivant's clinical trial protocols in view of the International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) M11 guidelines on clinical study protocol templates and technical specifications. - Summarized key information from the FDA Summary Basis of Approvals for new drugs/indications. - Reviewed drug promotional guidance and crafted recommendations for external communications related to investigational drugs. Increasing Global Access to Medicines Roivant Sciences and Roivant Social Ventures (RSV) have partnered to host the Access to Medicines Intern and Fellowship Program, providing real-world drug development experience to talented PharmD students who are passionate about leveraging their career development to expand healthcare access to underserved patient groups. This summer Mackenzie Greene served as an RSV Global Access Fellow, where she used her grant award to volunteer with Goodlife Access and Goodlife Pharmacy Africa in Rwanda, where she led initiatives to: - Conduct community healthcare clinic days that are creating access to otherwise unavailable blood pressure and blood glucose screenings for hundreds of community members in Kigali. - Create patient materials for post-screening healthcare education that provide next steps for building better health.  - Standardize screening techniques for providers to promote sterile practice, patient privacy, and continuity of care. - Assist in the opening of new pharmacies. - Create non-communicable disease screening/consultation rooms, including their scheduling, building, budgeting, staffing requirements, and educational marketing materials for community members. Growing up Mackenzie's family struggled to afford her medications, which is a widespread issue that many patients in need of treatment can deeply relate to. As a young teen, she remembers sitting on the phone for hours with companies hoping to get coupons or entrance into programs which would ultimately determine if she would be able to take her prescribed medications or not. She tried stretching one-month supplies of medication to last longer, knowing that they would not be able to afford her next fill when she ran out. Mackenzie's experience trying to access the medications that she needed as a child taught her first-hand that when patients can afford their medicines, and have fewer hurdles obtaining them, they are more likely to take them as prescribed, and improve their health outcomes.   Mackenzie developed a passion for leveraging her love of science, chemistry, and molecular biology to help serve patients in need of medical treatment. Prior to pursuing Eshelman's PharmD program, she received a Bachelor of Science with a focus on Microbiology, Genomics, and Bioethics from Michigan State University. As an undergraduate she pursued her passion for research through working at the Michigan State University's Department of Neuroscience and Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering. As we reflect on Pride Month 2024, we want to spotlight the impact of our LGBTQ+ employee resource group ROI-GBIV and all the work they do to support the LGBTQ+ community at Roivant Sciences and beyond. ROI-GBIV supported LGBTQ+ restaurants in NYC by having them cater our weekly happy hours in the month of June and recently deepened our ongoing partnership with OUTbio Greater New York. In addition, on July 23rd, ROI-GBIV’s executive sponsor, Roivant's Chief Financial Officer Richard Pulik, hosted a fireside chat with Merck’s Chief Medical Officer Eliav Barr, MD. We’re inspired by Dr. Barr’s work as a leader who gives voice and visibility to the LGBTQ+ community in science. We’re incredibly grateful for Dr. Barr’s leadership and perspective and we are committed to continuing to drive equity and inclusion for all! #Pride2024 #OutandProud #EquityandInclusion

When Ethan Hsu was in high school his father developed diabetic retinopathy, a chronic eye condition that occurs when diabetes damages the retina's blood vessels. Through a clinical trial, Ethan's dad was able to receive treatments that drastically improved his vision. Ethan saw first-hand the dramatic impact that drug development can have on quality of life for sick patients, which inspired him to begin pursuing a career in medicine through pharmacology competitions while he was still in high school. Ethan was the first person in his family to graduate from college and received a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the The University of Texas at Austin. As an undergraduate he conducted research in the Welsh Lab at MD Anderson Cancer Center. To date, he has published eight papers focused on treatment advancements in Immunology and Oncology. This summer Ethan is serving as a Research and Development (R&D) Intern for Roivant Sciences' Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Control (CMC) team. This internship is offering him the opportunity to further his research experience while directly learning about drug development. "I've always wanted to have hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry and I think that the work of the R&D department in Roivant's CMC is captivating, because the nature of the work is so new. The work is constantly growing and changing. For instance, even within the first week of my internship I was already getting to dive in on researching new technologies that not many people have gotten to touch. It's a great place to grow." Increasing Global Access to Medicines Roivant Sciences and Roivant Social Ventures (RSV) have partnered to host the Access to Medicines Internship and Fellowship Program, providing real-world drug development experience to talented PharmD students. This summer Magdalene Mallory is serving as an RSV Global Access Fellow, where she is using her grant award to volunteer at Goodlife Access and Goodlife Pharmacy Africa in Rwanda, and is leading initiatives to: - Conduct community healthcare clinic days that are creating access to otherwise unavailable blood pressure and blood glucose screenings for hundreds of community members in Kigali. - Create patient materials for post-screening healthcare education that provide next steps for building better health.  - Standardize screening techniques for providers to promote sterile practice, patient privacy, and continuity of care. - Assist in the opening of new pharmacies. - Create and present a proposal on the creation of non-communicable disease screening/consultation rooms, including, but not limited to scheduling, building, budget, staffing requirements, and educational marketing to community members. - Contribute to the designing and setting up of patient consultation rooms in new pharmacies. We sat down with Magdalene to learn more about what drives her work and how her fellowship in Rwanda will impact her career development. Magdalene grew up in a small town in Texas where she noticed early on that accessing healthcare created a difficult challenge within her community. From an early age she began volunteering at Center of Hope alongside her parents, where she witnessed firsthand the barriers individuals face accessing basic supplies and healthcare services. Magdalene shared, "From the very beginning I have made it my personal mission to help increase access and trust for underserved patients." This passion to build patient-centered access is deeply rooted in personal experience for Magdalene. Growing up she remembers watching her mother travel three to four hours to see physicians that she felt she could trust to provide proper care for herself and her family. Magdalene became hyper aware of and educated on the mistrust of our medical system that marginalized communities have developed over time. Magdalene's Global Access Fellowship has created the opportunity for her to put the critical skillsets she has developed through her PharmD program directly into action. "The work we are doing through RSV and Goodlife in Kigali (Rwanda) is merging my passion for treating underserved patients with my interests in both clinical and industry work. I'm so excited to already be witnessing just how impactful my work can be to the communities that I am dedicated to serving!"
